PFA names 6 nominees for Young Player of the Year award, Bukayo Saka included
Professional Footballers’ Association (PFA) has announced its list of the top 6 candidates nominated for the Men’s PFA Young Player of the Year award 2024. Last year’s winner Bukayo Saka has been nominated yet again for the prestigious Premier League accolade. The winner among these six high-profile nominees will be honoured on August 20 in Manchester.
The list of these extremely talented prospects includes two players from Manchester United, and one each from Arsenal, Chelsea, Crystal Palace, and Brighton and Hove Albion. While four of the six nominees hail from England, one each are from Brazil and Argentina.
With that being said, let’s have a look at the six nominees for Men’s PFA Young Player of the Year Award 2024:
1. Bukayo Saka
Saka is the only player in the list who can win it for two consecutive instances this time. He was one of the best players for Arsenal last season, scoring 16 goals and providing nine assists in 35 EPL games. He also had eight goal contributions in the Champions League.
2. Cole Palmer
Another English player, Palmer has been brilliant too for his club Chelsea. The No. 20 had 33 goal contributions in as many matches in EPL last time. He left a good impact for England in Euro 2024, with two goal contributions in five games.
3. Alejandro Garnacho
The 20-year-old winger is gaining all the attention for his heroics. He is showing class at both Manchester United & Argentina football team. In 50 applications for the club, he has scored 10 and provided five assists last season.
4. Kobbie Mainoo
Aged 19, the Manchester United midfielder earned praise last season for his skills and impact. He featured in 35 games for the club in 2023-24, having eight goal contributions. His chance creations have been Erik ten Hag’s plus-point.
5. João Pedro
The Brazilian netted 20 goals across all competitions for his club Brighton and Hove Albion. But that shall not be the only reason for his selection. His versatility was equally important for his club. His impact was felt in the three major competitions, EPL, FA Cup, and Europa League. In all three tournaments, he scored a minimum of five goals.
6. Michael Olise
The French winger has recently joined Bayern Munich, after having an awestruck year with Crystal Palace. He was a valuable member of the club from 2021-22. Last season, he was out for 18 games with a hamstring injury, but still managed to score ten goals and provide six assists.
