Pep Guardiola confirms Kevin De Bruyne to stay at Manchester City despite Saudi interest
Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola has put an end to rumors linking club captain and star midfielder Kevin De Bruyne with a move to Saudi Arabia. The Belgian currently has just one year left on his existing deal, which further added fuel to the already rampant rumors.
However, while speaking to Sky Sports during City’s pre-season tour of the USA, Guardiola made a few things about his squad clear ahead of the new season.
Firstly, the Spaniard mentioned that the squad is currently ‘complete’, with less likelihood for any player to join the club unless somebody leaves the club first.
Secondly, he reiterated the volatility of the transfer market closer to the end of the window, stating the club will be prepared for any sudden developments whether it comes to departures or arrivals.
Lastly, Guardiola was asked about De Bruyne’s status by a Spanish reporter, questioning the possibility of his departure. The Spaniard cut the reporter off mid-question to deny any possibility of the captain’s departure, mentioning his desire to stay on and play next season.
Kevin De Bruyne missed a major chunk of last season due to a hamstring injury, but will be available from the start of the 2024/25 campaign.
