Pedro Porro Injury: Tottenham receive major boost ahead of Aston Villa clash
Tottenham Hotspur have been handed a major boost ahead of their crunch Premier League meeting against Aston Villa on Sunday (Mar 10) with the return of Pedro Porro. The Spanish international, having missed the last two matches for Spurs is likely to come back having returned to training this week. According to Spurs manager Ange Postecoglou, Porro is training back the squad while having missed the Crystal Palace and Wolves game in recent weeks.
Pedro Porro Injury
Ange Postecoglou: “Pedro Porro has trained with the team so he’s now available. He’s back”.
“The rest are still in rehab”, the Spurs manager has confirmed.
Spurs used Emerson Royal in place of Porro during the two Premier League matches with the Lilywhites losing 2-1 to Wolves while they came from behind to win against Palace with a score of 3-1. Porro before the Wolves games had started all of Spurs’ Premier League matches apart from Brentford on the opening day. He has assisted a league-high eight goals in the season so far for a defender which makes him an important asset in the side.

He is one of the consistent performers on the side and scored the winning goal in the FA Cup third-round tie against Burnley. The goal was also the match-winner before Spurs lost to holders Man City in the fourth round. He has slotted well in the inverted fullback role which again has been a new addition to Spurs’ attacking plans.
Brennan Johnson has made a strong argument for a starting position heading into Sunday’s match in the Midlands after making an impressive cameo in the victory over Crystal Palace. Consequently, this gives the Spurs manager a good headache as they prepare for the Villa clash.
Spurs quest for Champions League football
Spurs have been struggling with injury woes in recent times but for the first time in a few months could field their best Playing XI. During the last few months, players like James Maddison (injury) and Son Heung-min (international duty) were not available for selection.
A win for Spurs will be a welcome addition for them as it will give them the edge for the Champions League places. They currently are on 50 points from 26 matches while Villa have played one match more but have collected 55 points. A win for Unai Emery’s side will see them complete a double over Spurs while giving them an eight-point advantage in the Champions League qualification process if the Premier League is limited to just four spots.
