Under Flick, Pedri is set to make a stellar transformation at Barcelona, with an enhanced treatment to better his game,
The La Masia graduate has become FC Barcelona’s rising star, and the club is fully committed to ensuring his upcoming season turns into a stellar one. After facing continuous physical challenges in the past, the 21-year-old is now backed by Barcelona President Joan Laporta, sporting director Deco, and coach Hansi Flick.
All three have made a firm commitment to the importance of protecting and enhancing his fitness. At the end of last season, a strategic plan was set in place to address his muscle issues and boost his physical condition, however, the midfielder, aware of the stakes, has actively sought the club’s help to gain a quick recovery.
Laporta and Deco quickly hired an international physical trainer Julio Tous, who designed a customized fitness plan tailored to Pedri’s needs. This plan was developed in collaboration with the medical team and based on their requirements as well. These results created an exclusive training routine aimed at injury prevention and performance enhancement, giving way for Tous to take charge.
Operation Pedri
A biopsy was performed, to better understand the players’ muscle composition, which was sent to a specialized lab in Baltimore. This study focused on genetic muscular myopathies and revealed insights that helped the club formulate a plan for strengthening Pedri’s muscles. Under the supervision of Tous and recovery expert Raúl Martínez, the Spaniard has committed to the program, which includes workouts and home sessions in a custom-built gym at the club and home.
The plan, initiated in the last few months of the previous season, was to help the youngster regain his physical prowess in time for the Euros, where he impressed despite a sprained knee injury. Even during vacation, a member of Tous’ team observed the Spainiard’s training, allowing him to attain top form. Since then, he has remained fit for both Barça and the national team.
Moreover, Flick placed his trust in the boy, considering him pivotal to Barcelona’s tactical flexibility this season.
