Will Pau Cubarsi play for Barcelona in La Liga?
The UEFA Champions League wrapped up the first leg of its RO16 proceedings last night. Five-time champions FC Barcelona came away with all three points courtesy of a 0-1 win in Benfica despite being a man down for the majority of the game. The Catalan giants were reduced to ten men by German referee Felix Zwayer in the 22nd minute for a last-man foul on Vangelis Pavlidis.
It was surely a controversial foul because Pavlidis fouled Frenkie De Jong in the build-up which went unnoticed by the referee. Cubarsi’s red card meant Barcelona found themselves in a tricky situation in yet another crucial UCL knockout game. However, heroics from Wojciech Szczęsny under the bar coupled with a match-winning goal from Raphinha ensured a much-needed win for Hansi Flick’s side.
Will Pau Cubarsi play for Barcelona in La Liga?
Cubarsi’s sending-off has raised multiple doubts among viewers regarding his availability for the Barcelona La Liga fixture against Osasuna. The young defender will surely be a part of the starting lineup over the weekend and is eligible to play because suspensions from the Champions League are not carried to domestic leagues. This comes as a huge relief for Barcelona and they’re faithful across the globe.
