Paraguay vs Chile Player Ratings: A 1-Goal Lead Sees Paraguay Get The Valuable Points And Reach Higher Ranks In The Group Table

We tuned into South American action on 21st March 2025, when Paraguay faced Chile head-on to climb to the top of their group. The match was a solid end-to-end game, with Paraguay protecting their one-goal lead, which came from Alderete, until the full-time whistle.

Both teams started the game with intent as they wanted to take their team into the higher ranks of the table. Both of them had one big chance each in the first half with Paraguay having a total of 8 shots while Chile had the chance of taking 6 shots.

The midfield battle of the game went on until the 25th minute of the game with none of the team establishing their dominance in the midfield. However as time went on, Chile had a better accurate passing percentage than Paraguay. For Paraguay, it was all Almiron who had seen the majority of the touches on the ball in the first half.

Though the battle was from one box to the other, the goalkeepers had the least to do with Fernandez having to make only one save and Cortes needing to make two saves to keep his team in the game.

In terms of possession, neither of the team had the ball for long, but it was Chile who had the most number of passes with 237 by the end of first half. It was a proper end-to-end South American action from each side with Paraguay having 6 shots from inside the box and 2 from outside while Chile had 3 shots from inside the box with 3 chances taken from outside.

After the 45th minute, 1 additional minute was added. However, by the end of the first half, none of the teams were been able to break the deadlock.

The second half started with a substitution of Galarza coming in for Bobadilla as the manager wanted to make a midfield change.

At the 60th minute, the fortune of the game changed for Paraguay as Alderete guided the set piece with a quality finish from the far corner to make it 1-0 for Paraguay after the ball was headed into the danger spot by his teammate.

The 66th minute saw Paraguay getting a set piece right outside the box. It was another promising chance for the Paraguay but nothing came out of it. The 72nd minute saw Chile make a couple subs to change the result of the game.

After the 90th-minute whistle, 6 additional minute was given. With the full time whistle, it was all Paraguay who protected the 1-0 lead till the end.
