Paraguay 1-0 Brazil player ratings as Diego Gomez’s long range strike secures victory

Brazil faced their fourth loss in eight qualifying matches of the World Cup after Diego Gomez’s 20-minute strike was the difference between them and Paraguay. Brazil were not able to create much of the chances apart from a few of the half chances created by Real Madrid wingers Vinicius Junior and Rodrygo. Vini tested the goalkeeper from 24 yards out as well as created one for Guilherme Arana, which was cleared on the line.

Paraguay took the lead against the run of the play through Diego Gomez’s long-range strike and were not able to create much of the chances to double their lead. They defended their one-goal lead comfortably with organisation and intelligence, breaking up the play and using their pace to stretch the pitch late. It is a famous win for the Albirroja as they move to seventh in the section. Brazil on the other hand are placed fifth and will look to bounce back on October 10 against Chile.
