Nottm Forest vs Man United Preview

In a week that could be decisive to the aspirations of both clubs this season, Nottm Forest vs Man United will kick off in the 5th round of the FA Cup on Wednesday. Nottingham United enters the game on the back of a turbulent few weeks. The only highlight for Forest recently has been their win over Bristol City in the last round of the FA Cup. Nottingham have struggled to find consistency all season and their defensive woes have only worsened for the season.

Forest suffered a thrashing at the hands of Aston Villa on the weekend, who smacked 4 goals into Sels’ goal.  While they scored two goals as well, it was mere consolation. As they come up against a wounded Manchester United, Forest will hope United aren’t in a mood to avenge their weekend loss against Fulham.

Meanwhile, Manchester United dipped in form last matchday after a sensational few weeks. The Red Devils trailed Fulham for most of the game at Old Trafford before a late equalizer instilled hope. However, Fulham kept pushing and scored a last-minute goal to run away with a 2-1 win, denting United’s aspirations of finishing in a top-four spot in the league. Erik ten Hag’s men can’t let the loss deter them with the business end of the season near. The Red Devils will aim to resurrect their season with a win on Wednesday against Nottingham.

The residents of City Road are already suffering in defense this season. To add salt to their wounds, veteran center-back Will Boly will miss the game with an injury. The Ivorian won the AFCON with Ivory Coast and returned to the club with an injury. Nottingham doesn’t seem too positive about the center-back recovering for the game against Man United in time. Right back Ola Aina returned from the AFCON with an injury as well and currently is being assessed to determine his return to the squad. For now, he is ruled out for the next few weeks.

Continuing the trend, Ibrahim Sangaré also seems to have sustained an injury in Ivory Coast’s title campaign in the AFCON. The Ivorian has been crucial in Nottingham Forest’s midfield and will be certainly missed against the Red Devils. Chris Wood and Nuno Tavares will remain on the sidelines with their long term injuries and are unlikely to return before April.

The Danish striker sustained an injury ahead of the Fulham game and is expected to be missing for three weeks. United will rue his absence cum Wednesday. Also, Harry Maguire will miss the field as Manager Erik Ten Hag confirmed.

The residents of Old Trafford also lost Luke Shaw to a thigh injury in a recent fixture and is ruled out at least till May. Lisandro Martinez returned from injury in January and sustained another one. The Argentinian center-back is set to be sidelined till April, further weakening the defense of an ailing Man United. Ex-Real Madrid midfielder Casemiro sustained a face injury in the loss against Fulham which led to him being subbed off and might miss the midweek tie. Mason Mount, Aaron Wan Bissaka, and Anthony Martial continue to remain sidelined with their long-term injuries.

Left-back Tyrell Malacia is slowly recovering from the injury he sustained last season at United and will return in March.
