Nottingham Forest vs Aston Villa Player Ratings: Anthony Elanga and Elliot Anderson Stars in Dramatic 2-1 Comeback Win

Nottingham Forest have managed to move into the Top 4 with a late win over Aston Villa. They looked set for a 1-0 loss but the home side bounced back to get all three points and climb over Manchester City.

Jhon Duran scored the opening goal but Nottingham Forest scored two in the final 7 minutes of the match to seal a dramatic win. They also had a goal disallowed after Elanga was caught offside.

Matz Sels – 7.5: The goalkeeper did not have a lot to do today but there was nothing he could do about the goal he conceded.

Defenders

Ola Aina – 6: He stayed back and defended for his life today. He deserves a lot of credit for dealing well with McGinn though the Scotsman was also good today.

Nikola Milenkovic – 8.5: Started the comeback for his side and also did well in defense when dealing with Jhon Duran and Ollie Watkins.

Murillo – 8.5: Another flawless performance from the defender before he was taken off. On the toes of the Aston Villa stars and never gave them space to shoot.

Neco Williams – 7.5: He was brilliant on the left flank, and that helped his side a lot. He made the most of Cash and Konsa, but they are not syncing well.

Midfielders

Ryan Yates – 7: He was calm and composed on the ball but was hooked off in the 68th minute as they looked to go more attacking for the final 20+ minutes.

Elliot Anderson – 9: He was brilliant from the start to the end. He did all the hard work for the winner and was on top of his game today.  

Nicolas Dominguez – 5: The Argentine just could get himself involved in the game today. Had to drop deep to help the defense.

Morgan Gibbs-White – 8.5: A performance he would be proud of today. He was creating chances for him and got the assist for the equalizer.

Callum Hudson-Odoi – 7.5: He was driving into the box at every chance and was the biggest threat for the Aston Villa defense.

Forwards

Chris Wood – 6.5: He scored once but the goal was ruled out for offside. Not his best game as he never got another shot on target.

Manager

Nuno Espirito Santos – 9: He made the perfect changes to get his side back in the game and the players got him all three points.

Aston Villa player ratings vs Nottingham Forest

Emiliano Martinez – 8.5: The goalkeeper pulled off what can be described as the save of the season, but then fumbled the ball into his net for the Nottingham Forest equalizer.  

Defender

Ezri Konsa – 7: The right-back decent today but did not get help from Matty Cash when needed. He managed to win all his ground duels and even took shots when needed.

Diego Carlos – 7: Could have done a lot more for the goals they conceded. He was brilliant on the ball, but should have been more alert.

Pau Torres – 6.5: He replaced Mings just minutes before kickoff as the defender got injured. Did well as a late minute replacement and should be proud of his performance.

Lucas Digne – 6.5: He spent most of the time in attack today and did not do much in defense.

Midfielders

Boubacar Kamara – 6: The midfielder was excellent on the ball and never looked like he misplaced a pass. However, most of his passes were safe and did not create a chance.

Youri Tielemans – 6.5: He played over 70 minutes today but hardly got involved in the match.

Matty Cash – 5: The right-back was playing up front today and did not look comfortable. He could have easily cleared the ball before they conceded the goal that saw them go down 2-1.

Morgan Rogers – 6: He was unlucky to not get a penalty today but it was the only move where he was seen. He could not create much and was not shooting as well.

John McGinn – 8: The Aston Villa star managed to make create some magic every time he got on the ball. Needed support but never got it from his teammates.

Forwards

Jhon Duran – 8: The striker got the nod ahead of Ollie Watkins today and he showed why. Got into the right positions but the service was rather poor. But the one time he got space, his header resulted in the goal.

Manager

Unai Emery – 6: The manager did well in the first half but his changes helped Nottingham Forest get back in the game.
