Norwich vs Brighton Preview

  • Tournament: FA Cup 2024-25 Third Round
  • Date: Saturday, January 11, 2025
  • Time: 3:00 pm GMT
  • Venue: Carrow Road

Norwich City will host Brighton & Hove Albion at Carrow Road in the third round of the FA Cup on Saturday, January 11.

The Canaries have had an underwhelming 2024-25 campaign so far. They finished sixth in the EFL Championship last season and narrowly missed out on promotion. This season, however, they sit 11th in the standings. They have nine wins, nine draws and eight defeats in the league and sit 14 points behind fourth-placed Sunderland.

Brighton, meanwhile, had a terrific start to the 2024-25 season under Fabian Hurzeler but have slipped recently. Once fourth, they have now slipped to 10th place in the Premier League standings. They have six wins, 10 draws and four defeats in 20 league games and are eight points behind fourth-placed Chelsea.

Norwich were eliminated in the second round of the EFL Cup earlier this season as they lost 4-0 against Crystal Palace. Brighton, meanwhile, lost 3-2 against Liverpool in the Round of 16 in the EFL Cup. Hence, both sides will be keen to do much better in the FA Cup, starting on Saturday.

Key Players to watch in Norwich vs Brighton

Borja Sainz

Borja Sainz
Borja Sainz (Image Credit: X)

Borja Sainz has been in sensational form this season for Norwich City. He has scored 16 goals and provided three assists in 28 games across competitions. The Spanish winger is the top scorer in the EFL Championship with 15 goals, three above second-placed Josh Maja.

Sainz joined Norwich from Turkish side Giresunspor in the summer of 2023 and has since contributed 24 goals and five assists in 67 games. However, despite all his prowess, he has failed to score in his last eight appearances across competitions for Norwich. He will be desperate to break this run and to his goals tally.

Kaoru Mitoma

The Japanese winger hasn’t hit his best stride this season so far for Brighton despite having some good spells. He has scored three goals and provided two assists in 21 games across competitions, which puts in him the Top 3 for both metrics at the club.

While Kaoru Mitoma is known for his dribbling and his creativity, his final product has been lacking this season. He has failed to register a goal contribution in his last seven appearances, which also saw being him being demoted to the bench in the last two games. He will be keen to break this poor run against Norwich.

Norwich vs Brighton Prediction

The Canaries have had an inconsistent season and that is evident in their last eight games. After a run of four games in a row without a win, they have managed a run of four consecutive games without a defeat. They beat Millwall, drew against QPR and then beat Luton and Coventry to bounce back.

Brighton, meanwhile, are winless in their last eight games with two defeats and six draws. They have drawn their last four games against West Ham, Brentford, Aston Villa and Arsenal.

While Norwich have the home advantage and are also in the better form, Brighton do have great quality in their squad. They were arguably unluck to not take all three points against Arsenal last time out. However, they will likely beat Norwich on Saturday.

Predicted Score: Norwich 1-3 Brighton
