No Premier League title for Liverpool this season as Manchester City batter Fulham at Craven Cottage
The day has come for Liverpool FC and their fans around the world. A day when it was finally announced that there would not be a Premier League title for The Reds this season. It’s confirmed after Manchester City beat Fulham at Craven Cottage to move up to first place.
Following the victory over Fulham, The Citizens now have 85 points in hand, while Liverpool stay at third with 78 points. Even if The Reds could win the two remaining games, the best they can earn is 84 points.
It all started from Manchester United
Everything went south for Liverpool since they failed to beat Manchester United at Anfield in the dawn of April. Since then, Jurgen Klopp’s squad only won once in the next four outings, making way for Arsenal and City to lock horns for the title.
Even if Liverpool managed to win their two remaining league games, it is unlikely to see Arsenal and City losing their remaining games. Klopp himself has seen it coming, saying that he won’t try hard to push with such calculation.
“No, if we cannot win it anymore, we don’t have to deal with it,” Klopp said in the latest press conference prior to the Aston Villa game at Anfield. “Not that we cannot [still] win it but it’s not now No.1 every morning on the priority list so I tell the boys, ‘By the way, we still have a chance.’
“We all can read the table, we all see the situation. Do we expect them to lose? [Manchester] City has to lose three games. Three. Difficult to see that. But you never know. And Arsenal has to lose two games – difficult.”
This situation made the Carabao Cup the best The Reds could win in Klopp’s final season with the club. During his tenure with Liverpool, Klopp could only win one Premier League title for the Anfield-based team, which came in the 2019/20 season.
