Nicolo Zaniolo injury: the midfielder suffered an injury in the Aston Villa vs Liverpool clash
Nicolo Zaniolo is likely to miss out on the UEFA Euro 2024 for Italy. The Aston Villa midfielder came on for a substitute appearance against Liverpool in a crucial Premier League match for the Midlands-based side at Villa Park. However, he didn’t last much longer on the field. After a couple of impressive runs towards the final third, Zaniolo was spotted in extreme discomfort sitting down on the pitch.
According to various reports, the 24-year-old has suffered a micro-fracture on one of his feet. The injury is supposed to keep him sidelined for at least a month period, which could well see him miss out on participating in the Euro 2024, which starts about a month from now. The injury is likely to cost him his place in the team.
The Italian player was playing quite well during his substitute appearance for Villa against the Reds. A major sense of disappointment among the Villa Park crowd was felt when they realized that his injury was serious. However, Aston Villa managed to script an excellent comeback on the night to draw 3-3 against Liverpool, and later on, went on to seal that UEFA Champions League spot as Tottenham lost their match against Man City.
It is worth mentioning that Nicolo Zaniolo will be missing out on the Euros for the second time in his career. The 24-year-old missed the 2021 rescheduled Euros as was recovering from his then ruptured ligament injury blow. His country Italy later won that edition of the prestigious tournament, in which they faced off England in the finals.
Nicolo Zaniolo had a decent 2023–2024 campaign in English football and was building up his form leading into the upcoming Euros. The 24-year-old debuted on the international stage for Italy in March 2019. He has had 19 appearances to his name so far for the country at the highest level, and he has also netted two goals for them.
Nicolo Zaniolo also played for Italy’s under-21, under-20, and under-19 sides at the youth level before earning his senior call-up. Despite not being a regular starter for Unai Emery’s side Astron Villa this season in his loan move from Galatasaray, the player has managed to step up whenever called up from the bench to make an impact on the game.
