Newcastle United set for a £100m summer spending spree

The Magpies have appointed former Monaco transfer head Paul Mitchell after sporting director Dan Ashworth decided to move to Manchester United at the conclusion of last season.

Mitchell who was in charge of the transfer strategy in Monaco enjoyed spells at Southampton and Tottenham Hotspur and was credited with the transfers of Sadio Mane, Dele Alli, and Son Heung-min. Newcastle United were one of the clubs getting players off their books to satisfy Premier League Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR) before 30th June 2024.

Sales of both academy graduates Yankuba Minteh and Elliot Anderson to Brighton and Nottingham Forest respectively generated a total of £65m along with Ashworth’s departure which is believed to be worth £20m.

Manager Eddie Howe could have a decent transfer window after freeing up almost £100m but would also be keen to not lose any more star players from the Magpies squad. A centre-back and right-footed forward is one of Howe’s top priorities this summer.
