Netherlands vs Turkiye Highlights
30′ YELLOW CARD: Xavi Sions can act all surprised but that was a clear yellow, if not a red card. Stamps on Mert Muldur’s leg, however accidental it could be, it was a dangerous one.
35′ GOAL! Turkey have taken the lead and there is nothing The Netherlands can do about it. Samet Akaydin is unmarked at the far post, as are three of his teammates, as Arda Guler’s cross is headed in.
HALF TIME: The Netherlands 0-1 Turkey.
46′ SUBSTITUTION: Ronald Koeman is wasting no time and has already brought on Wout Weghorst at the break. Steven Bergwijn makes way for the forward.
54′ YELLOW CARD: Nathan Ake is the next one into the books after he fouls Arda Guler.
54′ YELLOW CARD: Virgil van Dijk makes it three Netherlands players walking the tight role as he gets booked for shoving Baris Alper Yilmaz on the touchline.
70′ GOAL! Stefan de Vrij is unmarked in the center of the box and he has headed in the equalizer. Turkey repeat the mistake from The Netherlands, but this time it is a tall defender right in the middle of the box. How has no one spotted him?
74′ SUBSTITUTIONS: Joey Vertman and Micky van de Ven are coming on for The Netherlands with Tijjani Reijnders and Nathan Ake making way.
76′ GOAL! How has that crept in? Cody Gakpo knows very little about it but he does not care. Denzel Dumfries’ cross rolls on the floor across the box and everyone is caught watching like it is a baby taking the first steps. Replays suggest it is an own goal from Mert Muldur.
77′ SUBSTITUTIONS: Double change from Turkey as they look to get back in the game. Okay Yokuslu and Kerem Akturkoglu are on for Salih Ozcan and Kenan Yildiz.
81′ SUBSTITUTIONS: More changes from Turkey with Cenk Tosun and Zeki Celik coming on for Mert Muludur and Samet Akaydin, who seems to have picked up an injury.
87′ SUBSTITUTIONS: Jeremie Frimpong and Joshua Zirkzee are on for Xavi Simons and Memphis Depay. The message is clear from the manager: It is time to defend for the Dutch side.
89′ SUBSTITUTIONS: Final throw of the dice from Turkey as Semih Kilicsoy comes on for Kaan Ayhan.
90′ + 3′ YELLOW CARD: Cenk Tosun is shown a yellow as he shouts at the referee for blowing for offside.
90′ + 6′ RED CARD! Bertuğ Özgür Yıldırım is sent off from the Turkey bench for something on the touchline.
FULL TIME: The Netherlands 2-1 Turkey.
Player of the match
Stefan de Vrij will make the headline tomorrow in the Netherlands and rightly so. He got them the all-important equalizer and then defended like a rock at the back.
Key moment
Leaving Stefan de Vrij unmarked inside the box during a corner was the turning point in the match. The Netherlands were trying hard to get into the game, but all their efforts were not getting them the goal they wanted.
Right after the equalizer, the tides turned and it was all Netherlands and they made it count to make it 2-1.
Conclusion
Turkey will be heartbroken but they only have themselves to blame for the loss. They were tremendous until they conceded and the equalizer saw their confidence crumble.
