Netherlands vs Turkey: Preview, Prediction, Lineups and Team News | Euro 2024
Preview
Netherlands vs Turkey will be the fourth quarter-final at Euro 2024 and will be played at the Olympiastadion in Berlin on July 6.
Oranje will enter this game on the back of a dominant 3-0 win against Romania in the round of 16. Cody Gakpo’s goal gave them a one-goal advantage heading into the break as they kept their opponents at bay. Substitute Donyell Malen’s brace then sealed the deal for the Netherlands as they made light work of the team that qualified as Group E winners.
Turkey, on the other hand, made a blistering start to their round of 16 clash against Austria as Merih Demiral’s header saw them grab the lead inside the first minute. Demiral scored another headed goal in the second half to put his team in a great position. Michael Gregoritsch’s goal was not enough for the Austrians who fought hard until the final whistle but were eliminated.
That said, let’s take a look at the team news from both camps.
Netherlands vs Turkey Team News
Netherlands
As expected, Ronald Koeman has stuck with his strongest XI for most of this tournament. He will look to do the same in the quarters.
Bart Verbruggen will keep his place between the sticks, with skipper Virgil van Dijk and Stefan de Vrij in central defence in front of him. Denzel Dumfries and Nathan Ake will be the full-backs, while Jerdy Schouten and Tijjani Reijnders will anchor the midfield. Xavi Simons will play as the attacking midfielder with Steven Bergwijn and Cody Gakpo as the wide men. Memphis Depay will lead the line.
Turkey
Manager Vincenzo Montella will look to maintain consistency in his team selection and will not meddle with a winning combination.
Mert Gunok will continue being the first-choice goalkeeper, with Abdulkerim Bardakci, Merih Demiral and skipper Kaan Ayhan in defence in front of him. Ismael Yuksek and Orkun Kokcu will anchor the midfield, with Mert Muldur and Ferdi Kadioglu occupying the wide roles. Baris Alper Yilmaz and Kenan Yildiz will play as the wingers, with Arda Guler as the false nine.

Key Players to Watch
- Cody Gakpo (Netherlands) – With three goals and one assist already in the bag for the Liverpool forward so far, he is clearly the main man for the Netherlands in attack. His positioning and ability to strike the ball from distance makes him a lethal weapon and his teammates will make him the target man.
- Arda Guler (Turkey) – Despite having a relatively quiet game last time out, Guler has been fantastic at Euro 2024 so far. His movement and skill in the final third is something Turkey rely on to get them going and he will be key once again in the quarter-finals.
Netherlands vs Turkey Head-to-Head Record
These two teams have met surprisingly often over the last several years and their head-to-head record is also pretty balanced. The Netherlands have won two of their last five meetings, Turkey have won two, while the other game has ended in a draw.
Last 5 Games
- Netherlands 6-1 Turkey [09/21]
- Turkey 4-2 Netherlands [03/21]
- Turkey 3-0 Netherlands [09/15]
- Netherlands 1-1 Turkey [03/15]
- Turkey 0-2 Netherlands [10/13]
Prediction
These two teams have been evenly-matched in recent times as they have both won two games apiece and shared one draw. However, the Netherlands have been strong at this Euro and have got sharp goal scorers who can punish any team if given space behind the defence.
Turkey, on the other hand, have relied more on magical moments and playing as a cohesive unit. However, as things stand, they will have to play out of their skins to secure a result and it seems like they will fall short at this hurdle.
Prediction: Netherlands 3-1 Turkey.
