Netherlands 4-0 Hungary Player Ratings: Dutch dominate in a flawless display

A winner-take-all encounter saw the match suspended for over 10 minutes due to a medical emergency in the Hungary dugout. The game restarted with a penalty to the Netherlands as there was a handball just before the halt in play.
Wout Weghorst and Cody Gakpo scored penalties in the first half to give the Dutch a 2-0 lead before the break. Denzel Dumfries and Teun Koopmeiners added two more goals in the seocnd half and seale da 4-0 win for Ronald Koeman’s side.
The Netherlands player ratings vs Hungary
Goalkeeper
Bart Verbruggen – 7: Had the best seats in the house today as there was very little he needed to do on the pitch. Called into action twice and was never troubled by the Hungarian forwards.
Defenders
Denzel Dumfries – 9.5: What a goal it was and that sealed the win for the Dutch tonight. He topped it up with an exceptional cross to make it 4-0.
Jan Paul van Hecke – 7.5: The Brighton man had very little to do today and was more involved in keeping possession than defending. Hardly troubled and he made a whopping 118 passes in the game!
Virgil van Dijk – 7.5: Similar to Van Hecke as he never looked out of position. He too made over 118 passes in the game and was doing everything to keep the ball in their control.
Jurriën Timber – 7: Made an excellent block to deny Nego in the first half and that was his biggest contribution in defence. Was involved a lot in attacks and showed his class on the pitch.
Midfielders
Ryan Gravenberch – 7.5: Hardly put a foot wrong today and continued his Liverpool form for the country. Took a long-range shot in the first half, but apart from that, he never made a run forward.
Frenkie de Jong – 7.5: What a return to the international stage for De Jong! He was just subline in the middle of the pitch and controlled the game at every chance.
Tijjani Reijnders – 7.5: Unlucky to be not on the scoresheet today as he was both times by some exceptional keeping. He was making excellent runs into the final third and making it hard for the Hungary players.
Forwards
Donyell Malen – 7: Had multiple attempts of goal but just could not get on the scoresheet. He came closest with a header but it went just wide of the post.
Wout Weghorst – 7: Slotted the penalty with ease and was making excellent moves in the first half to create chances.
Cody Gakpo – 8: Took the penalty away from Weghorst and scored in the first half. However, his best contribution was the number of chances he created today, but he was unlucky as they never turned into goals.

Hungary player ratings vs The Netherlands
Goalkeeper
Dénes Dibusz – 8: Conceded three goals but still the best Hungarian player on the pitch as he made some excellent saves. There was little he could do about the two penalties, and the other two goals were simply too good.
Defenders
Botond Balogh – 6: Could not do anything to contain Gakpo and was never getting the help needed.
Willi Orbán – 6: Got booked early in the first half but stayed focused throughout the match. Weghhorst was not his biggest headache, but things could have been a lot worse for him.
Márton Dárdai – 6: Another player who got booked in the game but managed to keep himself together until the end. Any mistake would have resulted in a much bigger loss for his side.
Midfielders
Loic Négo – 6.5: Hardly got involved in the game and got just 26 touches in 75 minutes on the pitch. He was trying his best in attack but never managed to threaten the goal.
Tamás Nikitscher – 5.5: Played the full 90 and still managed just 17 passes. The game just went by him and there was nothing he could do.
András Schäfer – 6: Was all over the pitch but never in control of the ball. Had one attempt on goal but it went above the post.
Zsolt Nagy – 5: Had a decent game until the very end of the first half when he was tricked by Donyell Malen, and he gave away a silly penalty.
Forwards
Roland Sallai – 6.5: The biggest threat for the Netherlands today but just not enough to get on the scoresheet. Took three shots, but just one was on target.
Barnabás Varga – 6: Played an hour today and there was nothing he could do. There could have been a stick placed on the pitch instead of him, and it wouldn’t have made a difference.
Dominik Szoboszlai – 7: Pick of the Hungary outfielders today as he kept trying in very area. However, there was no help and he could not get his side back in the game.
