Neal Maupay hits out at Antony after his gesture towards Coventry City
After beating Liverpool in a sensational 4-3 FA Cup quarter-final, a lot was expected from Manchester United after they were drawn against Coventry City in the semi-final. However, that was despite a poor run of form this season but the Red Devils showcased their star power in the first half. So much so, that Erik ten Hag’s side ran away with a 2-0 lead before the half-time break.
They added a third goal ten minutes into the second half but then proceeded to showcase their bad form by conceding three goals in the remaining 30 minutes. That was mostly thanks to a sensational performance by Coventry City as they produced a historic comeback to send the game into extra-time. But while that couldn’t separate the two teams, penalties did as United walked into the finals.

However, the aftermath had nearly everyone praising Coventry City for their performance in the second half although many were focused on Antony’s antics after the shootout. The forward was sent on in the second half and saw out the game but made headlines for the wrong reasons. After Rasmus Hojlund’s winning spot kick, the team celebrated but Antony was spotted cupping his ears towards the Coventry City side.

The gesture hasn’t gone down well with fans, critics and neutrals alike with many criticising the forward for his unsportsmanlike conduct. However, Brentford’s Neal Maupay has hit out at Antony and claimed that even he wouldn’t have done that. The French striker is known for his antics on and off the field, having been in several similar situations before.
That includes teasing Kyle Walker, James Maddison, Kevin Nolan, and Scott McTominay. But in a post on X, Maupay retweeted Match of the Day and admitted that “Just for the record, not even I would do this”.
