Napoli announce Antonio Conte as their new first-team manager

Ever since leaving Tottenham, Antonio Conte has struggled to find the right fit despite leaving the North Londoners in March 2023. Since then, the Italian has been linked with moves to several clubs including back to Inter Milan, Juventus, Manchester United, Bayern Munich and even Real Madrid. But nothing has come to fruition while on the flip side, Napoli thrived under Luciano Spalletti.

The Italian took the club to new heights even winning the Serie A title in the 2022/23 season thanks to a few spectacular performances by Victor Osimhen and Khvicha Kvaratskhelia. The latter’s breakout season is now well known for being a main reason why Napoli thrived. But while Spalletti left at the end of the season, the club have struggled for consistency.

Napoli announce Antonio Conte as their new manager

The Serie A giants ended the 2023/24 season with three managers, with the last one, Francesco Calzona, sacked at the end of the season. Not only that, they finished 10th on the league table, making them the worst title holders in Italian league history. However, the club has since taken drastic action with rumours indicating that they were in talks with Conte over a move.

That has now been confirmed with Napoli revealing that Antonio Conte is their new manager and has signed a three year contract with the club. The move has gone down well with fans and critics alike, and Napoli President Aurelio De Laurentiis was also happy they got the deal done. The Italian admitted that the start of something new and important has begun with Conte at the helm.

“I am very proud that the new coach of Napoli is Antonio Conte. Antonio is a top coach, a leader, with whom I am sure that the necessary refoundation can begin after the conclusion of the cycle that led us to win the scudetto last year after many seasons at the top of Italian football. Today an important new chapter in the history of Napoli opens,” De Laurentiis told Napoli’s official website.
