Mykhaylo Mudryk Injury Update: Mauricio Pochettino confirms Chelsea star will miss the next game
Chelsea attacker Mykhaylo Mudryk suffered a coming together with Tariq Lamptey during the Blues’ 2-1 win against Brighton & Hove Albion on May 15. Chelsea used a concussion substitute as a result and brought on Christopher Nkunku.
Using the concussion substitute allows teams to have one extra changing option. However, the rule states that the concerned player must undergo a necessary seven-day cooling period. Hence, Mudryk has been ruled out of the Premier League home clash against Bournemouth on May 19, which is also Chelsea’s final match of the campaign.
Pochettino provided an update after the game, telling the media that the Ukrainian is not fine. He said (via GOAL):
“No, he is not OK, we are checking. He was a little bit dizzy but we used the concussion substitution and the rule is seven days, so he is not going to be available for the next game, but I hope it is nothing wrong.”
Mudryk’s season, as a result of the blow, has come to an end. The 23-year-old finishes his first season as a Chelsea player with seven goals and two assists from 41 appearances across competitions.
Ian Wright points out the change Chelsea attacker Mykhaylo Mudryk has implemented in his game
Arsenal legend Ian Wright has pointed out the change Chelsea’s Mykhaylo Mudryk has recently made in his game. Wright has said that Mudryk now runs with the ball in a controlled manner rather than bursting forward with it. He said (via HITC):
“You are seeing Mudryk now, as quick as he is, he is slowing himself down, and then he is going again. He’s starting to do things. The same with Jackson. They are paying attention to what is needed. Once they tighten things up, there is a dangerous team there.”
Mudryk arrived at Chelsea as a raw talent, which is now getting polished. If Mudryk can continue improving, the Blues might eventually have a star player in their ranks.
