Mumbai Indians Captain, Vice-Captain, Details
Mumbai Indians traded Hardik Pandya back in the 2024 IPL. They appointed him as their new captain in the previous season, removing their most successful captain Rohit Sharma. It got a lot of backlash and fans also booed the all-rounder during the matches. Pandya did not have the best season with the side in 2024, losing the first 7 games the most by any side in the competition.
The side finished 10th in the league table. Hardik was also removed from the T20I captaincy of the Indian Cricket Team. But in the forthcoming season the superstar all-rounder will like to change things around for the side with his vice-captain Jasprit Bumrah.
History
Mumbai Indians was founded in 2008. The franchise was bought by Reliance Industries Ltd (RIL) for $111.9 million. Making it the most expensive team to be sold in the league. They acquired the right for ten years. Sachin Tendulkar was named as the side’s marquee player and the captain as well. The side performed decently in the first season, they had changed the captain thrice in the season and failed to qualify for the playoffs. In the very following season, they finished bottom of the league table.
In 2010, Tendulkar led the side to the final of the season, but they eventually failed to have a hand on the trophy losing out to Chennai Super Kings. 2011 they qualified for the playoffs they lost in the qualifier 2 against Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB). In 2012 they lost in the eliminator against Chennai Super Kings. Despite a poor start in 2013 the side managed to win their first silverware under captain Rohit Sharma.
Again in 2015, the side went on to win the championship continuing a record of winning trophies every odd year. They won in 2017 and 2019. In 2020 they became the first team to win five championships and became the most successful side until the 2023 year when Chennai tied for winning 5 IPL record. For the last few years, the team has struggled a lot. But they would like to bounce back in the upcoming season and win their 6th trophy of the tournament.
