The 18th season of the Indian Premier League (IPL) is set to start on March 22, between the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) and the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR). The game will be super exciting as KKR will be back in the tournament with the hope of defending their trophy while RCB will hope to win their maiden title. Interestingly, RCB is one of the most loved teams in the tournament but hasn’t won an IPL trophy yet. 

Meanwhile, KKR have won three titles. The tournament is about clashing against each other for two months to get that ultimate trophy in the end. Whenever we think of a game in the IPL, fielding is something that doesn’t come to our mind that often. 10. Faf du Plessis

Faf du Plessis has Played for many franchises, this South African cricketer is the epitome of perfection when it comes to fielding. He has made some brilliant catches in the seasons he has played in the IPL. Overall, in 145 games, he has taken 81 catches. For a player like him, most of the catches taken by him are blinders. Even at an older age, he has the flexibility to bend and stretch his arms and take catches speaks volumes about his fitness and determination.

9. Manish Pandey

Batter Manish Pandey is another great fielder who jumps around and is proactive on the field throughout the game. He is one the fittest players with safe hands. He has taken 83 catches in 171 games. Pandey loves diving and stopping the ball from going to the boundary. He is an excellent batter as well.

Australia’s David Warner is eighth on the list of most catches in IPL history as he has taken 86 catches in 184 games. The player has always given his best on the field, moving around, and making sure each run is saved. This time, the tournament will miss him since he went unsold in the auction. 

7. AB de Villiers

Undoubtedly, AB de Villiers was one of the best in the business when it came to fielding. In 184 matches, he has taken 90 catches. There were times when he took some very difficult catches and made it look easy to the viewers. De Villiers was famous for his batting as well. Known as Mr. 360 for the kind of shots he plays, De Villiers was loved by most of the cricket fans. 

6. Shikhar Dhawan

India’s talented opener, Shikhar Dhawan, had a safe hand on the field throughout his career. In the IPL, he has taken 99 catches in 222 matches. He has announced his retirement from cricket, including IPL, so this time he won’t be seen in the tournament. Last, he played for the Punjab Kings in 2024 but was later replaced by Sam Curran as the skipper of the team. Dhawan missed the second half of the tournament due to injury.

5. Rohit Sharma

MI’s former captain Rohit Sharma is just fantastic at the slips. It’s very rare for him to drop catches. In 257 games, the player has taken 101 catches, which is outstanding and he’s at fifth position in the most catches by a player in IPL. Even at the age of 37, Rohit is quite flexible on the field. He is a great striker of the ball as well and has scored 6628 runs at an average of 29.72.

4. Ravindra Jadeja

CSK’s star all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja is famous for his flying catches in the IPL. He is one of the best fielders in the tournament and has taken 103 catches in 240 games. Jadeja has been fabulous on the field since the start of his career. He has taken some of the best catches around the boundary which have looked impossible to human eyes. Moreover, he is very active on the field as well which is always a threat to the batters. 

3. Kieron Pollard

Mumbai Indians’ Kieron Pollard was a talented all-rounder, as well as a brilliant fielder. He was amazing on the field, stopping the boundaries and sixes. His height favoured him a lot while fielding on the boundaries. In 189 games, he has taken the most no of catches in IPL (103 catches) and is on the list of the players with the third most catches by a player in IPL.

CSK’s Suresh Raina aka Mr. IPL, was so far the best fielder in the IPL. He was very prompt, active, and always running around in the field to support his teammates. For the longest time, he was also the highest run scorer of the tournament and no one was around him. However, things changed after his retirement. He was also the player with the most number of games in the tournament. In 205 games, Raina has taken 109 catches, the second most by any player in the IPL.

RCB’s former captain Virat Kohli is the leading run-scorer and has taken the most catches in the Indian Premier (IPL). Kohli has been an asset to the tournament. He holds several other records including the only player to play for a single franchise in the tournament.

Kohli has been with the Royals since the inception of the team and has expressed his interest in ending the tournament with the same team. The loyalty he carries for the team is beyond explanation. Kohli has played in 252 catches and has taken 114 catches in the tournament. One of the best fielders of the tournament, Kohli hasn’t missed a single opportunity to inspire the upcoming cricketers.
