Moises Caicedo suffers a harsh knock in the game against Argentina
Moises Caicedo was doing great when Ecuador faced Argentina in the quarter-final of Copa America at NRG Stadium. The Chelsea midfielder played so great that he was knocked down several times, leading to an injury-concerning situation.
Caicedo was down injured in the 10th minute, but he carried on playing to give threats to the Argentina defence. The former Brighton midfielder made several chances despite none of them yet to find the back of the net.
In the second half, Caicedo received another knock from the Argentina players and this time it was from Cristian Romero. The Tottenham Hotspur’s defender meant to sweep the ball off of his box but his swinging leg found Caicedo.
No significant decision for Argentina following the incident
No VAR review for this incident but both players were getting treatment from respective medical staff. Argentina are en route to defend the Copa America title, which is possibly the last possible title that Lionel Messi can win with his country before retiring.
The world champions took the lead in the first half through Lisandro Martinez and were involved in a tight game since then. Ecuador refused to surrender and intensified their pressures instead.
If Caicedo injured, it would be a huge loss for Ecuador as the young midfielder played a crucial role in creating chances for Argentina. The Santa Domingo-born is in a redemption after spending most of his time with Chelsea last season on the bench and medical room.
