Mohamed Salah’s wife’s embrace with Jurgen Klopp sparks controversy
Mohamed Salah’s family was present at Anfield for Liverpool’s final game of the season against Wolves in the Premier League on Sunday, May 19. It was also Jurgen Klopp’s final game in charge of the club, as he brought an end to a nine-year spell.
Along with Klopp, his entire coaching staff left the club as well. Moreover, players like Thiago Alcantara and Joel Matip also parted ways. Hence, after Liverpool’s 2-0 win over Wolves, there was a huge tribute and celebration for the people leaving the club.
After the game ended, the players also brought down their families from the stands. In one video, Jurgen Klopp was seen interacting with Mohamed Salah and his family. He then also hugged the Egyptian winger’s wife Maggie Salah.
This, however, led to some controversy among some members of the Muslim community, as per Lovin Cairo. Due to religious sentiments and societal norms, one activist and some people found Maggie Salah’s embrace with Jurgen Klopp inappropriate. They believe that Mohamed Salah should’ve stopped his veiled wife from doing that.
However, many other activists and people have come out in support of Salah. They pointed out the emotional atmosphere and also the fact that Klopp is like a father figure to the Egyptian winger.
Activist Eva Habib pointed out that there was no ill intent between either side and that the German was a father figure. Mohammed Abu Mamdouh Abu also pointed out the fatherly relationship between Klopp and Salah, making the gesture appropriate. Madhat Qushqush also highlighted how Klopp brought Salah to Liverpool and built his career and also pointed out to the age difference, likening it to a father-son relationship.
This isn’t the first time Salah has come under fire during his time at Liverpool, though, as he was also once criticized for celebrating Christmas.
Mohamed Salah opens up after Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool exit
Jurgen Klopp brought an end to an illustrious nine-year stint at Liverpool this summer. He won every trophy available at the club and one of the most crucial players for him was Mohamed Salah.
After the final game of the season, the winger shared a message for the German on X (formerly Twitter), writing:
“It was great sharing all those trophies and experiences with you over the past seven years,” Salah wrote on social media.
“I wish you the best of luck for the future and hope we meet again.”
Mohamed Salah has made 349 appearances for Liverpool, registering 211 goals and 89 assists, all of them under Jurgen Klopp.
