Mohamed Salah is desperate to stay at Liverpool: Reports
Mohamed Salah’s future at Liverpool has been a hot topic in recent times. His current contract expires next summer and he revealed that the club haven’t spoken to him about a new contract. Currently, the winger will be eligible to speak to foreign clubs in January for a Bosman move and leave next summer as a free agent.
Salah has arguably been the Merseysiders’ best player since arriving from AS Roma in 2017. He’s scored 214 goals and provided 92 assists in 352 games so far. He’s not only Liverpool’s best attacker but also one of the greatest wingers in Premier League history. Hence, it was a major shock when the Egyptian revealed that the Reds haven’t contacted him for a new contract.
Liverpool Echo journalist Paul Gorst has now revealed that Salah is ‘desperate’ to stay at Anfield. He wants to renew his contract and continue with the Merseyside giants.
One factor that could perhaps be putting doubt in the club’s mind about Salah’s future is that he’s now 32 years old. However, as per Gorst, money would not be a factor in the Egyptian winger’s mind to extend his stay. He currently earns around £350,000 per week, which the club could look to reduce in a new contract due to his age.
Salah has interest from multiple clubs in Saudi Arabia, with Al-Ittihad leading the charge. They also made a bid for him in the summer of 2023 but the Premier League giants rejected it.
What did Mohamed Salah say about his future at Liverpool?
Arne Slot’s side beat Manchester United 3-0 at Old Trafford in the Premier League on Sunday, September 1. Salah scored one goal and assisted the other two. It continued Liverpool’s perfect record in three games this season.
However, it wasn’t all perfect for the club’s supporters as Salah ended up raising doubts about his future at the club with his post-match statements. He said:
“Honestly, I had a good summer. I had a long time to stay with myself, try to think positive because as you know it’s my last year at the club. I just want to enjoy it, I don’t want to think about it but I feel free to play football, we will see next year.”
“To be fair, I was coming to the game and I said: ‘It could be my last time.’ The club has not talked to me yet so I will play my last season and see at the end of the season.”
Salah has had an excellent start to the 2024-25 season with three goals and three assists in just three games so far.
