MLS side San Diego FC in talks to get Carlos Avina from AS Monaco
Carlos Aviña is reportedly set to join San Diego FC as their new director. The Mexican is leaving his technical director role at AS Monaco, less than a year after getting appointed.
As per Fabrizio Romano, MLS side San Diago have agreed on terms with the Mexican. They are now working to get him off his contract at the Ligue 1 club.
The 33-year-old has worked with Club America in his homeland as the Director of Development, before getting promoted to Director of Professional Football and Scout. His impressive work saw him catch the eye of several clubs in Europe and North America.
AS Monaco’s satellite club Cercle Brugge won the race for the Mexican in 2020. The French club were keeping tabs on the 33-year-old and signed him up last year.
He replaced Laurence Stewart at the French club after the former RB Leipzig head of scout left for Chelsea. AS Monaco took six months before bringing Aviña to France but are now set to lose him. It is unclear if they will agree a deal with the MLS side or force him to resign.

The possibility of putting him on a gardening leave cannot be ruled out, as Newcastle United have done it with Dan Ashworth amid interest from Manchester United.
San Diego FC are yet to make its debut in MLS. They are set to join in 2025 as the 30th team. MLS commissioner, Don Garber, has announced that the new side will use Snapdragon Stadium as their home ground.
