Mikel Arteta provides injury update on Jurrien Timber
The Dutch defender was left out of Arsenal’s 4-1 win over Bayer Leverkusen on Wednesday as he is currently enduring a foot injury after missing out the entirety of last season due to an ACL injury. Timber has now suffered a new setback, which is understood to be down to load management.
The 23-year-old participated for the U-21 squad in April and May and was expected to make his debut for the Gunners in the upcoming campaign. Timber will also remain a doubt for the weekend’s game against Lyon.
“With Jurrien he had a little discomfort in his foot the last few days,” said Arteta. “After the amount of time he has been out, we did not want to take any risks with him.”
The Gunners start their Premier League campaign against Wolves on Saturday, August 17 and Timber now faces a race against time to be ready for Arsenal’s opening game of the new season.
