Mexico and Ecuador are set to face off in an all-important group B match at Copa America 2024. With a place in the quarter-finals at stake, these two evenly-balanced sides will play their final group fixture. Scroll down below to know more about Mexico vs Ecuador match prediction, line-ups, and team news.

Following a 1-0 victory over Jamaica in their opening game, Mexico went down 0-1 against the table toppers Venezuela in the next game. El Tri now sits third in group B with three points, the same as their Sunday opponents. For Ecuador, they are second in the lot and are better placed to progress into the Copa America quarter-finals. La Tri went past winless Jamaica with ease through a 3-1 win in their previous fixture. They have a +1 goal difference at the moment, while the Mexicans have 0.

Mexico are one of the teams that have the ability to pull off unexpected results. But, last week’s defeat has put them in a spot of bother, with their journey in the South American Championship looking in jeopardy. Only a win can send them straight into the next round. In the last three editions of the tournament, Mexicans have crashed out in the group stage. If they somehow fail to claim all three points against Ecuador this weekend, their Copa campaign will come to an end in similar fashion.

Ecuador, on the other hand, reformed themselves after 1-2 loss against Venezuela and executed their plans thoroughly to clinch their first points against Jamaica. Now, they only need a draw to book a quarterfinal berth at Copa. With this important game Knocking on the door, let’s focus on the team news coming from both sides.

The Mexicans will most probably be without their skipper Edson Alvarez who sustained an Injury in the opening game. Reports suggest that he is yet to recover from that setback. Luis Chavez and Luis Romo will be leading the charge in the middle for El Tri. Julian Quinones is expected to start ahead of Orbelin Pineda, yet again, despite the latter producing a better performance after coming off as a substitute.

The good news for La Tri is that Enner Valencia will return to the squad after serving his red-card suspension, which he received during their loss to Venezuela. It means Kevin Rodriguez will start from the bench.

Mexico Predicted Lineup: Gonzalez; Montes, Sanchez, Arteaga, Vasquez; Chavez, Romo; Pineda, Antuna, Quinones; Gimenez

Key Players to Watch in Mexico vs Ecuador

Santiago Gimenez (Mexico)

The Mexican forward has already shown his class in the Eredivisie this season. For Feyenoord Rotterdam, he clocked over 23 goals and six assists in 31 appearances across all competitions and became player of the season at the club. Santiago Gimenez has still not found his footing well at Copa America 2024, but he might create a lot of chaos in the Ecuadorian penalty box.

Enner Valencia (Ecuador)

Enner Valencia is another key player to watch in this game. He was red-carded for his foul against Venezuela. However, after serving one-game suspension, he is set to feature in the final group contest. In the 2023/24 season, the forward netted eight goals and managed three assists in 23 games for SC Internacional. Valencia will be a player to watch against Mexico.

Mexico vs Ecuador Prediction

The Mexicans will be desperate in search of a victory and Ecuador just need a point from this fixture to advance to the next round. Between these two sides, Felix Sanchez’s team has been a better team to watch at every front. They took the lead against Venezuela, but squandered that golden opportunity to win the match. Against Jamaica, La Tri turned all the wrongdoings into the right ones. Mexico, on the other hand, have lost six of their last seven matches against the Latin American nations. They have lost one and drawn another in their last two meetings with Ecuador. Jaime Logano’s boys also have been utterly wasteful in front of goals at Copa America 2024 so far, and they are expected to repeat that. Consistency gives Ecuador the edge in this fixture.

Predicted Score: Mexico 1-2 Ecuador
