Inter Miami Secures $8m Transfer for Federico Redondo, Son of Real Madrid Legend

Inter Miami have triumphed over Bayern Munich in securing the signing of Federico Redondo from Argentinos Juniors, reinforcing their Argentine connection alongside Lionel Messi.

The Major League Soccer (MLS) giants sealed the deal for the midfielder for a reported fee of $8 million, as revealed by Florian Plettenberg.

Despite Bayern Munich’s rumoured interest, the Bundesliga giants did not formalize a bid for Redondo during the January transfer window, nor did they intend to pursue him in the upcoming summer transfer period.

Redondo is the son of former Real Madrid and AC Milan star Fernando Redondo. Rising through the ranks of Argentinos Juniors’ youth system, the 21-year-old made his senior debut in 2022.

Displaying his prowess on the field, he appeared in 45 matches for his club in the 2022/23 season, contributing with two goals and two assists across all competitions.

This acquisition marks a strategic move for Inter Miami, with Federico Redondo poised to fill the void left by compatriot Facundo Farias, who is sidelined due to injury.

Redondo’s inclusion is expected to occupy one of the U22 spots in the squad, ensuring a minimal impact on the team’s salary cap, with only $200,000 of his salary counting towards the overall cap.

Looking ahead, Inter Miami, led by Messi, is gearing up for their final pre-season encounter against Newell’s Old Boys, Messi’s boyhood club, on February 16.

Subsequently, they will kick off the new season against Real Salt Lake on February 22, as they aim to make a strong start under Messi’s leadership.

Inter Miami’s acquisition of Federico Redondo underscores their commitment to strengthening their squad and further solidifying their Argentine connection, positioning themselves for success in the upcoming MLS campaign.
