Atletico striker Depay likely to miss Borussia Dortmund games
The Dutchman is struggling with an injury
Atletico Madrid striker Memphis Depay is likely to miss both their Champions League games to Borussia Dortmund. The Dutchman is currently recovering from a muscle injury and could be out for three to four weeks.
Depay has even missed Atletico’s last two training sessions due to the injury, and initial tests indicated that he could be out for up to a month, ruling him out of their crucial quarter-final tie against Dortmund.
Atletico host Dortmund at the Wanda Metropolitano in the first leg (Atletico Madrid vs Dortmund) on Wednesday before the return leg at the Signal Iduna Park next Tuesday. It will be a tough two-legged affair between two talented sides.
Los Rojiblancos, however, will have their task cut out without Depay, who has been a key player for them with 18 goals and four assists in all competitions from 28 matches. He has managed to register such impressive numbers despite missing nearly two months at the end of 2023 with a similar issue.
Atletico will have to rely on Alvaro Morata and Antoine Griezmann in the attack to produce the goods.
Advantage Dortmund as Atletico struggle
Atletico Madrid have really gone off the boil lately. In their last eight games, the Rojiblancos have lost four times across three competitions – in the Champions League, La Liga, and Copa Del Rey, while also drawing once. Meanwhile, Borussia Dortmund have won five of their last six games, including a stunning 2-0 win away to Bayern Munich in the Bundesliga. Having beaten Atletico 4-0 on their last visit to Dortmund, Der BVB will be confident of their chances yet again.
