Mauritania 0-1 Egypt Player Ratings as super sub Adel’s stunner wins it for the Pharaohs
Super sub-Ibrahim Adel’s spectacular goal earned Egypt a 1-0 win over Mauritania in an African Cup Of Nations qualifying game. The game was punctuated by delays due to injuries caused by fouls, which led to an extensive first half. Mohamed Salah’s absence was palpable as the Egyptians struggled to gather any sort of momentum while the hosts were the better side for larger spells. While the game appeared to be leaning towards a draw, substitute Ibrahim Adel scored a stunning effort from the halfway line in the 85th minute to catch goalkeeper Mamadou Diop off guard and pull off a great victory for the visitors. With that, the Pharaohs have secured their place in AFCON 2025, and on the other hand, Mauritania remains at the bottom of their group.
Mauritania National Football Team Player Ratings vs Egypt
Goalkeeper
Mamadou Diop: 3/10 – Had a laid-back first half due to a lack of actions from the visitors. But was duly paid off for his mistake after coming off the line, with Adel chipping a spectacular effort from the halfway line.
Defenders
Khadim Diaw: 5/10 – Had to be replaced at the hour mark but put in a decent performance, making 3 recoveries and winning 4 duels and 1 tackle
El Hassen Houeibib: 6/10 – Managed the second-most touches and also 10 passes into the final third – the highest in the game.
Mohammed Delahi: 6/10 – Delahi was a great presence in the defence with his immaculate passing and long balls. Was also sturdy enough to keep Egyptian attackers at bay for the majority of the game
Ibrahima Keita: 6/10 – Keita had a great outing notwithstanding the result. Made his presence on the right-flank with his progressive skills, making 8 passes into the final third. He was also untouchable in the defence, making 4 recoveries and 5 clearances.
Midfielders
Oumar Ngom: 4/10 – Made a few defensive efforts and completed 8 passes into the final third, but his performance was limited on the whole
Mouhsine Bodda: 4/10 – Bodda also failed to make a big impact except for his 5 defensive recoveries and 5 passes into the final third.
Sidi Bouna Amar: 5/10 – Forced an early save from Mohamed El Nany after unbalancing the Egyptian defenders with his dribbling skills.
Attackers
Aboubakary Koita: 5/10 – Forced a spectacular save from El Nany and also sent another effort just wide off the post.
Papa Ndiaga Yade: 4/10 – Posed a little threat with his dribbling but only had a minimal impact overall.
Aboubakar Kamara: 3/10 – The skipper failed to rise to the occasion, putting in a lacklustre showing. Was hardly to be seen in the opposition box throughout the game.

Goalkeeper
Mohamed El Shenawy: 7/10 – Shenawy was one of the unsung performers, making two top-quality saves to ensure a clean sheet.
Defenders
Khaled Sobhi: 4/10 – Forced off with an injury around the 70th minute after a run-of-the-mill performance. Offered less on the attacking front while making 3 recoveries.
Mohamed Abdelmonem: 6/10 – The Lion d’Or nominee and the future of Egypt had a mixed performance, excelling with the ball at his feeling although a little shaky in defence. Nevertheless, made 4 recoveries and clocked up the most passes in the game with an accuracy of 92%.
Ramy Rabia: Although the attack was drab, Egypt’s defence was spotless in the 1st-half, marshalled by Ramy Rabia. Rabia limited Mauritania’s impact in the final third, winning 4 duels, making 3 clearances, 3 recoveries and 1 interception.
Ahmed Eid: 5/10 – the right-back was solid in the back, making 3 clearances and winning 2 tackles. Was also tidy moving forward, delivering 2 passes into the final third.
Midfielders
Marwan Attia: 5/10 – Was slightly inconsistent but still made timely defensive contributions. His long-balls were also pin-point and he delivered 3 passes into the final third.
Mahmoud Saber: 6/10 – A good performance from Saber as he tried to build the tempo whenever he had the chance with his near-accurate passing. Was also unbreachable, making 3 recoveries,1 interception and winning 3 tackles.
Ahmed Sayed Zizo: 4/10 – Deployed on the flanks, Zizo was supposed to be the creative hub of the side, but he rather put in a disappointing performance. Hardly made his presence felt in the middle and attacking third.
Attackers
Omar Marmoush: 6/10 – Shouldered the onus in the absence of Mohamed Salah and also tried his best to carry out a futile attack. Not his best performance given his current red-hot form but put in a lot of effort to make things happen.
Mohamed Hamdy: 4/10 Hamdy attempted the first shot for Egypt in the 1st half but his shot was blocked by the hosts. Completed 1 dribble and other than that, nothing impressive.
Osama Faisal: 3/10 – Took up the centre-forward role in the place of Marmoush, who was forced to play wider. However, Faisal was non-existent in the 1st half, managing only two touches in the opposition box. Was also slow to react to Marmoush’s pass.
Substitutes
Ibrahim Adel: 7/10 – It takes some doing for a substitute to make an instant impact by scoring a screamer from the middle of the pitch. His awareness about the goalkeeper’s positioning was also brilliant.
Trezeguet: N/A
Mohamed Shehata: N/A
Hamdy Fathy: N/A
Ahmed Nabil Koka: N/A
Manager
Hossam Hassan: 6/10 – Hassan was moments away from overseeing one of the worst performances, but thanks to a late winner from Adel, who he had summoned from the bench – which proved to be a masterstroke.
