Mauritania 0-1 Egypt Player Ratings as super sub Adel’s stunner wins it for the Pharaohs

Super sub-Ibrahim Adel’s spectacular goal earned Egypt a 1-0 win over Mauritania in an African Cup Of Nations qualifying game. The game was punctuated by delays due to injuries caused by fouls, which led to an extensive first half. Mohamed Salah’s absence was palpable as the Egyptians struggled to gather any sort of momentum while the hosts were the better side for larger spells. While the game appeared to be leaning towards a draw, substitute Ibrahim Adel scored a stunning effort from the halfway line in the 85th minute to catch goalkeeper Mamadou Diop off guard and pull off a great victory for the visitors. With that, the Pharaohs have secured their place in AFCON 2025, and on the other hand, Mauritania remains at the bottom of their group.

Oumar Ngom: 4/10 – Made a few defensive efforts and completed 8 passes into the final third, but his performance was limited on the whole

Mohamed El Shenawy: 7/10 – Shenawy was one of the unsung performers, making two top-quality saves to ensure a clean sheet.

Khaled Sobhi: 4/10 – Forced off with an injury around the 70th minute after a run-of-the-mill performance. Offered less on the attacking front while making 3 recoveries.

Mohamed Abdelmonem: 6/10 – The Lion d’Or nominee and the future of Egypt had a mixed performance, excelling with the ball at his feeling although a little shaky in defence. Nevertheless, made 4 recoveries and clocked up the most passes in the game with an accuracy of 92%.

Ramy Rabia: Although the attack was drab, Egypt’s defence was spotless in the 1st-half, marshalled by Ramy Rabia. Rabia limited Mauritania’s impact in the final third, winning 4 duels, making 3 clearances, 3 recoveries and 1 interception.
