Mauricio Pochettino’s future at Chelsea relies on the Europa League spot?
Mauricio Pochettino would have his performance reviewed in the summer when Chelsea conclude the season. With three games to go, The Blues are just two points away from the sixth place and six points from the fifth.
Mauricio Pochettino’s future depends on this huge task
Pochettino could stay at Chelsea at least for another season with one condition: qualifying for the next seasons’ Europa League. Should the Argentinian fail to do so, the door would be wide open for him to leave, per The Athletic columnist David Ornstein.
“Chelsea have a situation of their own with Mauricio Pochettino who is in position for now, and he is coming up to a year of a two-year contract with an option to extend,” Ornstein wrote. “That situation will be reviewed in the summer. Chelsea are demanding that they qualify for Europe – but through the Europa League, not the Europa Conference League.”
Furthermore, Orstein guaranteed that Pochettino would not be replaced by Chelsea’s former managers as it has been rumoured lately. Nor the likes of Hansi Flick and Ruben Amorim.
“When you see names like [Antonio] Conte, [Jose] Mourinho, Hansi Flick and Ruben Amorim linked with the Chelsea position, I’m assured they will not be taking over at Chelsea if there is a vacancy – but there isn’t yet.”
Chelsea are in the mood after beating their classic London rival West Ham United with five goals to nil at Stamford Bridge. For the next two matches, they would have to visit City Ground and Amex Stadium to face Nottingham Forest and Brighton respectively. Before returning home to host Bournemouth for the final game of the season.
