Matthew Turner was fond of baseball just like other native boys of America. In his school, Saint Joseph Regional High School, the Crystal Palace goalkeeper used to play baseball and basketball. But, at the age of 14, he found a hidden interest in football and began to play for the freshman team. In his entire college career, he made 39 appearances for Fairfield University under the bar. Despite falling short in the initial tryouts for the MLS drafts, he made it to the NE Revolution team.

In 2016: Matthew Turner signed a professional contract with the Major League Soccer (MLS) club, New England Revolution. But he was sent to United Soccer club Richmond Kickers on loan where he made his senior debut against Toronto FC.

In 2018: Turner’s impressive performances for Kickers made sure that he was given the responsibility of guarding the net for the NE Revolution. Despite making multiple crucial saves, Turner conceded two goals in a 0-2 loss on his MLS debut. 

In 2019-20: Turner ran out of fortune as he dropped to third choice in the MLS side. He played the second fiddle in almost a full calendar year but didn’t have a fallout with the coach as he was biding his time. Everything changed in 2020 as Matthew Turner made it to the final list of the MLS Goalkeeper of the Year award. His teammates gave votes in his favour to announce him Player of the Season for NE Revolution after he amassed several clean sheets, setting and breaking multiple club records in the process.

In 2021: Turner turned into a flying beast under the bar as his great reflection and match-reading qualities bailed the New England Revolution out in important matches. The current Crystal Palace goalie recorded 1.20 saves per game and had a 75.5 save percentage throughout the season. Turner also accumulated 17 clean sheets in a calendar, the most by an NE Revolution goalkeeper ever.

In 2022: Matthew Turner arrived in the English Premier League after signing a contract for £2.5 million. He continued his impressive performance in English football and earned the favour of Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta. In seven appearances for the Gunners, he recorded four clean sheets, which was seen as the highest level of his career. Turner also was a part of the London club that won the Community Shield title.

In 2023-24: Due to a congested squad, Arsenal was forced to sell Matthew Turner to Nottingham Forest on a £10 million deal. He was at his very best in a Premier League game against Chelsea and helped his team win 1-0 as a reliable wall in front of goal. Matthew Turner made his senior international debut in 2021 for the US Men’s Soccer team in a huge 7-0 victory against Trinidad and Tobago. He was a guardian angel standing tall in goal in that game and saved a penalty. In the 2021 CONCACAF Gold Cup, he completed the tournament with six clean sheets before winning the tournament. Since then, he has been the regular goalkeeper for the US team in major tournaments like the 2022 FIFA World Cup, 2023 and 2024 CONCACAF Nations Leagues.
