Matheus Nunes Injury Update: When will the midfielder return for Manchester City?

Manchester City Matheus Nunes suffered a horrific injury during his team’s clash with FC Copenhagen in the UEFA Champions League.

The Portuguese midfielder had a tumble and broke the middle finger on his left hand and was seen laying on the pitch in excruciating pain.

Matheus Nunes Injury: How long will he be out?

While the injury does not affect Matheus Nunes’ footballing abilities as such, he will possibly have to undergo surgery to fix the damage. A broken finger takes anywhere between six to eight weeks to fully heal, and around 10 weeks for full strength to return.

However, Nunes could be back in action for Manchester City within a few weeks. He may play with a protective brace around his finger or entire hand. He has made 25 appearances across competitions so far this season, providing five assists. The midfielder will look to add to that tally when he returns.

Manchester City vs Copenhagen match flow

City made an electric start to the game courtesy of Argentine forward Julian Alvarez. He first assisted Manuel Akanji for the team’s first goal after five minutes. Alvarez then got on the scoresheet himself four minutes later with an opportunistic shot that was fumbled by Copenhagen ‘keeper Kamil Grabara.

The Danish side did not give up and still played some eye-catching football, especially the move for their goal. Mohamed Elyounoussi and Orri Steinn Oskarsson combined brilliantly near Los Blancos’ penalty area before the latter assisted the former with a backheel for a lovely goal.

Erling Haaland scored on the cusp of half-time after a pinpoint long ball from Rodri to assist him. The Norwegian’s shot was heavily-deflected and gave Grabara no chance.

Pep Guardiola’s men now join Real Madrid as the first two teams to qualify for this year’s quarter-finals. They will find out the fate of their draw in a couple weeks’ time.
