Manchester United to make space for Manuel Ugarte with departures of familiar faces: Report
Manchester United are pushing to sign Manuel Ugarte from PSG
Premier League giants Manchester United have reportedly agreed personal terms with PSG’s Uruguayan midfielder Manuel Ugarte. Fabrizio Romano has further stated that amidst the terms of the contract being discussed, the 23-year-old is keen on joining and playing for the Old Trafford-based club. He is also not worried about the prospect of the Red Devils not playing in the Champions League in the upcoming season.
United are in further ‘club-to-club’ discussions with PSG to finalize a deal for Ugarte at this moment in time. However, as earlier reported by Romano himself, United’s hierarchy is likely to make way for Manuel Ugarte by sacrificing a couple of experienced players whose future at the English club hangs in balance at this stage.
As per the report, players like Scott McTominay and Casemiro are the most likely departures to take place in the ongoing summer transfer window. The Red Devils are looking to offload Casemiro, understandably so, as the veteran’s form fizzled out in the later stages of the last Premier League campaign. However, United’s asking price of about £30 million is reportedly not being entertained by the few of the Saudi Pro League clubs termed to be interested in signing the player.
As as far as things related to Scott McTominay is concerned. Both Fulham and Tottenham Hotspur are the clubs in line for the Scottish midfielder, as United seeks around £40 million for him. Things look more bright for the Red Devils in terms of a transfer chance for McTominay when compared to Casemiro as of now. It remains to be seen how things progress further for the club in the ongoing summer transfer window.
Manuel Ugarte’s numbers for PSG in the 2023-24 Ligue 1 season
Uruguayan international Manuel Ugarte played a sum of 25 games for PSG in the previous Ligue 1 campaign. He registered three assists to his name in these outings for the French club. The 23-year-old mainly played as a defensive midfielder, but he did tweak his position playing as a central defender in a few games.
In the Copa America 2024, Ugarte played six games for Uruguay up until his side crashed out of the competition after defeat to Colombia in the semi-final. He went on to start each and every game in the tournament for his country. His current contract with PSG is valid till June 2028, which might make him an expensive provision for Manchester United in terms of a permanent transfer deal.
