Manchester United star Antony ruled out for West Ham United clash
Antony has reportedly suffered an ankle sprain and is out of Manchester United’s clash against West Ham United. The Brazilian had gone off injured during their 1-1 draw against Fenerbahce where he got injured just 14 minutes after coming on for Marcus Rashford.
Manchester Evening News journalist Samuel Luckhurst was the first to report on Antony today and stated that the winger was not dealing with a serious injury. He added that the Red Devils are still assessing the injury, but he will not be available this week. He posted on X:
“Antony suffered an ankle sprain vs Fenerbahce. #mufc still assessing the severity to determine how long he’ll be out for but pleased it’s not more serious.”
Antony is yet to score or assist for Manchester United this season in the league. The winger has played just two games – both off the bench – and it has been the case in the Europa League matches as well.
Antony Injury Update: Latest News and Expected Return
Erik ten Hag spoke about Antony earlier this week after the Brazilian picked up the injury in the Europa League clash and said:
“It’s really unlucky for him. I feel real compassion for him, when he worked so hard in training. His training performances are that good that he deserved to come on. When you have to come off so quickly, that is really sad to see. Hopefully, it’s not too bad, we have to wait 24 hours for what the assessment is.”
Antony has scored once in the Carabao Cup fixture – a penalty during the 7-0 win over Barnsley. With the Brazilian out, Amad Diallo is expected to play more on the right wing.
Manchester United have not been at their best this season and the injury worries keep increasing. Mason Mount, Kobbie Mainoo, Harry Maguire, Jonny Evans, and Tyrell Malacia are already ruled out for the Red Devils.
Ten Hag has already been talking about the injury issues and said earlier this week:
“Yeah. that holds us back in our levels and also in our position in the league. Because, when you don’t have the players available, you can’t line up the best team and that is what’s holding us back in this moment. We need more players often available, and then we have to work altogether on this point. That is the players, the coaching staff, all the other staff. We have to do better and to get more available players because we know when we have them we are a really tough team to play, and when we have them, we can be really, really successful. And that is what we have shown over the last couple of months.”
Manchester Untied are 13th in the Premier League table ahead of their match against West Ham United. A loss could see them slip to 14th while a win could take them to 8th.
