Manchester United to Discuss Mason Greenwood’s Future Amid Barcelona Interest
Manchester United are set to enter talks regarding the future of young talent Mason Greenwood during the January transfer window, following reported interest from Barcelona. The forward has been thriving on loan at Getafe in La Liga, enjoying a resurgence after a surprising move to the Madrid-based club in September.
United initially reconsidered reintegrating Greenwood into the squad after criminal charges against him were dropped in February last year. The Athletic reports that discussions over his future are scheduled this month, with Barcelona and Atletico Madrid expressing interest in securing him on a permanent basis.
What’s Next for Mason Greenwood
Having agreed to a season-long loan with Getafe, it’s noted that the contract lacks a break clause, making a permanent move in January unlikely. Getafe, pleased with Greenwood’s progress, is reportedly willing to break their transfer record by offering €46 million (£40 million/$51 million) for a permanent deal. However, it is anticipated that Greenwood will remain with Getafe until the end of the season, with a final decision on his future to be made at that time.

In their loan agreement, Getafe secured a 20 percent sell-on clause, positioning them to profit if Greenwood is transferred for a substantial fee. The young talent has contributed significantly to Getafe’s rise to eighth place in La Liga, scoring five goals in 15 appearances across all competitions this season.
As Greenwood continues his impressive season, Getafe gears up to face Espanyol in the Copa del Rey round of 32, further showcasing Greenwood’s impact on the Spanish side.
