“A big disappointment” – Christian Eriksen comments on Manchester United horror show against Crystal Palace
Christian Eriksen delivered a scathing assessment of the team’s performance following a humiliating 4-0 defeat at the hands of Crystal Palace and this has now had a devastating blow to Manchester United‘s Premier League campaign.
The match saw Michael Olise propel Crystal Palace into an early lead by taking advantage of defensive lapses from United. This was then followed by goals from Jean-Philippe Mateta and Tyrick Mitchell with Olise adding a fourth for the hosts.
Christian Eriksen Comments Post Crystal Palace defeat
Eriksen did not mince words in his evaluation conceding that the blame falls squarely on the shoulders of the United players. He remarked to BBC Sport,
“A big disappointment. We just had an off-day and we weren’t in it. It is what it is. We can’t really change the injury things. We have to do what we can on the pitch to change it. Today it didn’t matter who we played. Everyone could have done better. I don’t know what the conclusion is for how it went. We weren’t good enough. We tried to do what we could but we were not good enough. We’ll take the blame as players.”
What’s Next for Manchester United after Record-Breaking Defeat?
This defeat marks a historic low for Manchester United, as they have now suffered 13 losses in a single Premier League season for the first time.
The previous record of 12 losses occurred during the tumultuous 2013-14 campaign under David Moyes and was equalled in 2021-22 during the tenures of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and Ralf Rangnick.
With their league position precarious at eighth, Manchester United faces an uphill battle as they strive to salvage their season.
Their next challenge comes in the form of a clash with Arsenal at Old Trafford on May 12. The visiting Gunners, buoyed by their title aspirations, will undoubtedly view this encounter as an opportunity to further compound United’s woes.
