Man United Transfers: Sir Jim Ratcliffe looking to make at least three marquee additions this summer
Manchester United will look to make a strong start to new majority stakeholder Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s era with marquee signings. The Ineos owner was recently made the official owner of a 27.7% stake in the club.
Man United Plans Summer Spending Spree Despite Financial Constraints
Now, reports from the Daily Mail suggest that the club’s hierarchy are planning a spending spree to strengthen key areas. United will look to sign three marquee players. The positions they will look to reinforce are central midfield, central defence, and striker.
Man United Manager Erik ten Hag had demanded a new striker in the January transfer window but Manchester United could not oblige. The club had little wiggle room considering the Premier League’s profitability & sustainability rules and had to take few steps back.
However, the PL monitors these spending records over a three-year span, which last began in 2021. During this time, Manchester United have spent in excess of £500 million on signings. Clubs are usually allowed just £105 million in losses, or £35 million per year for three years.
Considering a new cycle will begin in July, Man United’s Sir Jim Ratcliffe and United’s recruitment team will not face strict scrutiny immediately
Changes needed at Manchester United before making signings
Before making Man United transfer signings, The club will need to offload several players.
Anthony Martial will run down the remainder of his contract before leaving in the summer. Meanwhile, Jadon Sancho, Facundo Pellistri and Brandon Williams, among others, are likely to depart the club permanently. Others such as Harry Maguire, Casemiro, Christian Eriksen and Aaron Wan-Bissaka could be available for the right price.
The club will need to ace their next recruitment spree as they are desperately in need of improvements. United scored 58 goals in 38 Premier League games last season and conceded 43. This season, despite being sixth, they have scored just 35 and conceded a worrying 34, with a goal difference of merely one.
Additionally, none of their players have hit double figures for goals or assists in the Premier League yet. Midfielder Scott McTominay is their top scorer with seven goals.
Manchester United will need to bring the right personnel to improve under Erik ten Hag.
