“Biggest club in the world”: Manchester United and Sofyan Amrabat to not part ways so soon
Amrabat was on a season-long loan from Fiorentina
Manchester United loanee Sofyan Amrabat has hinted at a possible extension of his loan, or perhaps, a permanent move, after their FA Cup triumph on Saturday. The Moroccan was on a season-long loan from Serie A side Fiorentina and played 30 games in all competitions under Erik ten Hag.
Amrabat played the full 90 minutes of their win on Saturday, as Manchester United beat City 2-1 in the FA Cup finals. He made two clearances and tackles each, while registering a 93% pass completion rate as the midfielder had a terrific game.
While his overall season has been a mixed bag, Amrabat’s performance on Saturday might change his Old Trafford future, which seemed uncertain until yesterday’s game. Now, the player himself has expressed a desire to stay on at the club, which he also hailed as the “biggest” in the world.
He said:
“Do I already know what I’m going to do next year? No. We are going to talk. Staying is certainly an option. Look, I think it has been a very difficult season. For Manchester United it needs to be much better, and also for me personally. We are going to talk. Manchester United are the biggest club in the world, so who wouldn’t want to play football here? But all parties have to be happy with each other, so we will sit down now and see what happens.”
Manchester United have the option of making his move permanent although it’s not clear if the club is fully convinced with the player.
Winds of change set to blow over Manchester United
Despite the FA Cup victory, we could see a few changes at Manchester United this summer, starting with the manager himself. Erik ten Hag oversaw their worst ever Premier League campaign, and there were reports that he could be sacked regardless of the result on Saturday. Sofyan Amrabat may return to Fiorentina, while there are doubts over Anthony Martial’s future too as his contract is up next month. Raphael Varane is confirmed to leave.
