Uncertain Fate Looms for Manchester City as Former Financial Adviser Discusses Potential FFP Relegation
In a recent talkSPORT interview, former Manchester City financial adviser Stefan Borson addressed the precarious situation facing the Premier League champions, asserting that relegation could be imminent if the club is found guilty of breaching Financial Fair Play (FFP) rules.
City currently faces charges related to 115 FFP violations over an eight-year period, a case that has the potential to reshape the landscape of English football.
Stefan Borson Expresses His Views on Manchester City and FFP Situation
Borson acknowledged the severity of the charges, suggesting that if proven, the consequences could go beyond mere sanctions. While the possibility of Premier League titles being stripped has been discussed, Borson believes that relegation is a realistic outcome, although he expressed scepticism about such an extreme measure being taken.
Speaking on talkSPORT, Borson stated,
“The scale is on a completely different level… If these charges are proven, this will end in at least relegation.”
He emphasized the gravity of the situation, considering the alleged conspiracy over a ten-year period. However, Borson also raised doubts about the likelihood of such widespread misconduct within the club.
City, having won multiple league titles between the 2010/11 and 2017/18 seasons, could face significant consequences if found guilty. Borson questioned the feasibility of a prolonged conspiracy involving numerous individuals associated with the club and third-party entities. He pointed out the difficulty in making allegations of dishonesty and perjury against key figures within the football community.

Borson commented on the need for clarity, stating,
“There is a ludicrous situation that we have right now… an announcement is going to drop… that, I would say, completely changes Premier League football.”
While a date has been scheduled for City’s case, Masters refrained from disclosing specific details.
