Manchester United win appeal over Bruno Fernandes’ red card against Spurs

Manchester United have received a huge boost regarding captain Fernandes’ suspension as they have successfully appealed against Bruno Fernandes red card against Tottenham Hotspur. The Portuguese midfielder was sent off in the first half during Sunday’s 3-0 defeat against Spurs following his foul on James Maddison.

While he was initially slated to miss the games against Aston Villa, Brentford, and West Ham due to suspension, Fernandes will now be available for these matches, with the red card overturned.

It was the first red card in Fernandes’ Man Utd career and he was visibly distraught with the decision. It looked apparent that Fernandes accidentally caught Maddison with the studs following an unfortunate slip, prompting referee Chris Kavannah to brandish a straight red without consulting the VAR. The Red Devils skipper later claimed his innocence, stating that the foul was unintentional and that he only caught Maddison with his ankle.

Erik ten Hag’s side will now be relieved to see the suspension being overruled, which will allow Fernandes to get back into their scheme of things amid what turns out to be a crisis at Old Trafford. “Bruno Fernandes will be available for Manchester United’s next three games following a successful claim of wrongful dismissal. Fernandes was set to miss our league fixtures against Aston Villa, Brentford and West Ham but will now be available for selection following the successful appeal, “ read a statement from Man Utd.

The Red Devils produced a disastrous performance against Spurs, which marked their third defeat of the season while they have won only two games and drawn once in the Premier League.

Ten Hag has found himself on the firing line and is under more pressure than ever to produce results in the upcoming matches, with his job apparently hanging by a thread.

United will be up against Porto in their second Europa League game this Thursday, having played out a lacklustre draw against Twente in their opening fixture.

The Red Devils will be desperate to get to the winning ways although they await a tough fixture against Porto. Although he appears to have the backing of United owners INEOS, Ten Hag is aware that the results should improve considerably in the coming games in order to keep his managerial position intact.
