Manchester United held Thomas Tuchel talks confirms Erik ten Hag

The Manchester United owners have officially approached former Bayern Munich manager Thomas Tuchel as revealed by current first head coach Erik ten Hag. There has been uncertainty circling around Ten Hag’s future despite the Dutchman finishing the season on a high after winning the FA Cup final.

The former Ajax manager revealed that he is aware that the club held talks with former Chelsea and Bayern Munich manager Thomas Tuchel, along with several other candidates.

Erik Ten Hag explains why Manchester United decided to continue with him

Manchester United have decided to stick with Dutch manager Erik ten Hag as the club aims for more silverware when the English top-flight returns for the 2024/25 season in August.

The 54-year-old was under immense pressure after United ended eighth in the Premier League last season – their lowest-ever finish since 1990. But Ten Hag managed to salvage the season after defeating Manchester City in the FA Cup final.

Ten Hag’s role as United’s manager was under threat as new owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe conducted a thorough review of United’s disastrous season in 2023/24 under the Dutch manager.

The likes of Mauricio Pochettino, Gareth Southgate, Thomas Tuchel, Kieran McKenna and Roberto De Zerbi were all touted for the head coach role at Old Trafford but United decided to continue with the Dutchman for the upcoming campaign.

“The club management came to me while I was on holiday in Ibiza,” Ten Hag told Dutch TV channel NOS. “They suddenly showed up on my doorstep and told me they wanted to continue with me.

“Man United have told me that they spoke with Tuchel, but they eventually came to the conclusion that they already have the best manager.

“INEOS took their time. They are new in football, it’s normal to reflect on the season. It’s no secret that they talked with multiple candidates.”
