Manchester City player ratings against Tottenham as Nathan Ake and Mateo Kovacic Shine in an Impressive Display

Manchester City finally broke their poor streak at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium as they beat Spurs 1-0 in the FA Cup fourth round on Friday, January 26.

Man City had lost all of their previous five visits to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium across competitions without scoring a single goal. However, they put in a dominant display on Friday and created multiple opportunities.

Oscar Bobb put the ball in the back of the net in the seventh minute but it was disallowed for offside after a VAR check. Nathan Ake eventually got the much-needed goal for his side in the 88th minute after Guglielmo Vicario’s clearance off a corner fell in his path.

On that note, let’s take a look at Man City Player Ratings vs Tottenham from the FA Cup fourth-round clash.

Man City Player Ratings

Stefan Ortega (7/10)

Ortega didn’t have much to do in the game as Tottenham made just one attempt on goal, which he did well to save from Brennan Johnson. He also completed 28/32 passes.

Kyle Walker (7/10)

He was tasked with facing Timo Werner on the night and did well whenever needed. Walker, who was Man City’s captain on the night, completed 40/49 passes, won 3/6 duels, and made two clearances. However, he lost possession 11 times and made two fouls.

Ruben Dias (7/10)

Dias made four clearances, four tackles, and one interception. He won 6/11 duels, completed 51/58 passes, and dealt well with the little Spurs threw at him. He also picked up a yellow card.

Nathan Ake (8/10)

Ake wasn’t troubled too much by Tottenham as he made one interception, one clearance, and one tackle. He capped it up with a good finish to seal the win for Man City.

Josko Gvardiol (6/10)

Gvardiol started as a left-back and was good in defense with three interceptions, one clearance, and winning 4/6 duels. However, he contributed very little in attack and lost possession a whopping 14 times. He also received a yellow card.

Rodri (6/10)

Rodri was solid in possession with a 93% accuracy and completed all five attempted long balls. However, he won just 3/9 duels, lost possession 10 times, and made four fouls.

Mateo Kovacic (8/10)

Kovacic was one of Man City’s best players against Spurs, especially in the first half. He looked to get on the ball and drive forward or create. The Croatian midfielder had 92% passing accuracy, completed 2/3 dribble attempts, and made two interceptions and two tackles.

Bernardo Silva (7/10)

Silva wasn’t at his best against Spurs by his high standards. He had a 90% passing accuracy, made two key passes, won 6/15 duels, and completed 2/4 dribble attempts.

Phil Foden (6/10)

Foden was arguably Man City’s liveliest attacker in the first half but failed to capitalize on good opportunities. While he did create plenty, he was dealt with well by Spurs.

Foden completed 27/31 passes, made two key passes, lost possession 10 times, and also missed one big chance.

Oscar Bobb (6/10)

A rather tame performance from the youngster. His goal was ruled out in the seventh minute due to offside but failed to create an impact after that. He completed 30/33 passes, made two key passes, and won 1/5 duels.

Julian Alvarez (6/10)

Alvarez couldn’t make an impact in the game. He had 39 touches, completed 17/19 passes, completed just 1/9 crosses, and lost possession 14 times. He also missed a glorious chance to score, which was blocked well by Micky van de Ven.

Substitutes:

Jeremy Doku (5/10)

Doku came on for Oscar Bobb in the 65th minute. He completed 10/17 passes, completed 0/2 attempted dribbles, won 3/6 duels, and lost possession 11 times. He also made two fouls and was booked as well.

Kevin De Bruyne (7/10)

De Bruyne came on for Julian Alvarez in the 65th minute and instilled some energy in Man City. He completed 12/16 passes, won 2/4 duels, made one key pass, and completed 2/2 long balls. It was his corner that led to City’s crucial goal.
