M Chinnaswamy Stadium History

M Chinnaswamy Stadium is also called the Karnataka State Cricket Association Stadium. It is the stadium that is located in the heart of Bengaluru. The stadium is owned by the Government of Karnataka and operated by the Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA). It is located on Mahatma Gandhi Road, near Cubbon Road in central Bengaluru. M Chinnaswamy Stadium is the home ground for the Karnataka state cricket team, Karnataka women’s cricket team, and IPL and WPL franchise Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB).

It is surrounded by Cubbon Park, Queen’s Road, Cubbon, and uptown MG Road. It gives an electrifying atmosphere inside the stadium when Royal Challengers Bengaluru or team India plays. The stadium was built back in 1969, and construction work began in 1970. The stadium initially hosted initially-class cricket matches during the 1972-73 season. It got the right to host a test match during the 1974-75 season when the West Indies toured India.

It is the world’s first cricket stadium to use solar panels to generate the majority of its electricity. The panels were obtained through the KSCA’s “Go Green” project. In 2016, a water purifying plant was installed, and by January 2017, an advanced ventilation and drainage system was in place to prevent matches from being shortened owing to a wet outfield.

The stadium installed its first floodlights during the 1996 World Cup. The first match played here under lights was a quarter-final match between arch-rivals India and Pakistan on March 9, 1996, which India won by 39 runs. It has 40,000 seats. The fans have been equally enthusiastic for their IPL team despite RCB not winning the competition since its inception.
