Luke Shaw Injury Update: When Will He Return for Man United?

English left-back Luke Shaw had just returned to action in January in what has been an injury-riddled season for Shaw and sustained a terrible muscle injury in Man United’s victory over Luton Town on Sunday. The left-back is now facing a long time on the sidelines.

Man United’s injury list continues to grow, and this time the victim is yet again Luke Shaw. The 28-year-old left-back has missed over half of the season with injuries. After a long period on the sidelines, Erik ten Hag finally could avail of his services back in January. Shaw seemed to be finding his momentum. But, just as he seemed to get better, Ten Hag was forced to substitute him against Aston Villa Squad two weeks ago as a precaution.

While things seemed to be better, Shaw returned for the game against Luton Town the following week. The left-back started the game well and seemed lethal, only to be subbed off again at half-time. This time tests have revealed a serious injury for Shaw. Now, Luke Shaw faces a long time on the sidelines yet again with a leg injury.

Luke Shaw Injury Update: When will the Left-back return?

Man United confirmed the left back’s recovery will determine his return.

Amid speculations regarding the extent of Luke Shaw’s injury, Manchester United have addressed the issue in a statement. In a statement on Wednesday, the club said, “ Further assessment is still required to determine the severity but we expect him to be absent for a few months.” The sources around the club, however, seem positive regarding his return just before the end of the season.

Luke Shaw’s injury will further weaken a Manchester United side in their upward battle to secure a top-four spot. The Reds currently are in 6th place and are five points behind Aston Villa in fourth place. With left-back Tyrell Malacia already out with a long-term injury, the absence of Luke Shaw will haunt United. The Manchester club even sent left-back Sergio Reguilion back to Tottenham Squad, and are now orphaned on the left. Luke Shaw joined a long list of injured players for United including Mason Mount, Lisandro Martinez, Anthony Martial, and Wan-Bissaka.

Luke Shaw’s injury could lead to him missing international fixtures

The news of Luke Shaw’s injury will also worry the England football team as he will miss crucial international matches. Gareth Southgate will hope that his first choice left back returns to full fitness before the upcoming Euros in June. For now, Luke Shaw will certainly miss Man United’s next few fixtures against Fulham, Nottingham Forest and Manchester City.
