Lucknow Super Giants: Know All About LSG Owners, Captains, Coaches, Records and More
Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) came into existence in the 2022 Indian Premier League (IPL) season along with Gujarat Titans (GT). The franchise is not too old but they have already made people notice of their performance in the past three years. LSG was bought at a record-breaking price by popular businessman, Sanjiv Goenka, owner of the RPSG Group. LSG were able to qualify for the playoffs back-to-back in the 2022 and 2023 seasons of the cash-rich league. However, the 2024 season wasn’t great for them and there were a few altercations as well which were seen between the team owner and captain KL Rahul.
LSG have made several changes in their squad during the mega auction for the 2025 season of IPL. They released their captain KL Rahul and picked up Rishabh Pant as their skipper. They also picked other key players during the auction, however, it would be interesting to see if these changes would make any impact on the team’s performance or not.

Lucknow Super Giants Jersey & Logo
The logo of the Lucknow Super Giants represents the mythical bird Garuda with the tri-color wings, representing the franchise’s Pan-India appeal. They have placed a blue-colored cricket bat as the body of the bird to signify the game of Cricket. There is also a red ball over the bat with an orange seam representing the ‘Jay Tilak’.
LSG’s jersey is made of Limoges blue with armor blocks in bright orange on the sides of the jersey which connects to the trouser sides, which makes the sides to be in a pattern whether the jersey is tucked in or out. There is also a pop of green which makes the jersey even more vibrant.
Lucknow Super Giants Captain, Vice-Captain, Details
LSG have appointed Rishabh Pant as their new captain for the upcoming IPL season. They secured the services of Pant at a whopping price of ₹27 crore. It was earlier reported that Nicholas Pooran would be seen leading the side but considering Pant’s tenure as captain with Delhi Capitals (DC), LSG decided to go with Pant as their skipper. However, it won’t be easy for Pant to lead a new team as Pant was a part of Delhi Capitals for a very long time but it’s not the same the with LSG.
LSG haven’t announced their vice-captain for the upcoming season but it won’t be wrong to say that Pooran will be seen leading the side in Pant’s absence. Although, LSG will also have another captaincy option in the face of South Africa’s star batter David Miller it is unlikely to see him doing the role of skipper.
History
As mentioned earlier, the franchise came into existence during the 2022 IPL season. IPL’s Governing Council announced an invitation to tender for two new franchises in August 2021. There were a total of 22 companies who were interested in buying these two sides. However, it was Sanjiv Goenka-owned RPSG Group who won the rights to own the Lucknow franchise at a whopping price of ₹7,090 crore.
They named the franchise Lucknow Super Giants in 2022. It also has a sister franchise in SA20 league with the name Durban Super Giants. They also acquired a majority stake in Mohun Bagan Athletic Club’s football division in 2020 and renamed it to Mohun Bagan Super Giant.
