Liverpool vs Luton Town Player Ratings as Alexis Mac Allister and Luis Diaz Really Impress
Liverpool have opened up a four-point gap at the top of the Premier League standings after a dominating 4-1 win over Luton Town on Wednesday (Feb 21). The Reds, who won’t be in action over the weekend due to their League Cup final commitments against Chelsea, have guaranteed the top spot at least until they return back to Premier League action next weekend. Despite the big scoreline, it was Luton who led briefly in the match and had their noses in front at the half-time break. After an inspiring win for Liverpool here are the Player Ratings for both sides.
Liverpool FC Player Ratings
Caoimhin Kelleher (7/10)
In Alison’s absence, Caoimhin Kelleher made of good saves and completed the lion’s share of passes in the match. He was untroubled for the second half of the match after the Reds dominated to win 4-1.
Conor Bradley (8/10)
Conor Bradley created three or four chances in the first twenty-five minutes of the second half, driving infield at times and along the flanks at others. He was crucial to the Reds’ relentless effort and ultimate comeback.
Jarell Quansah (7/10)
Jarell Quansah handled Cauley Woodrow’s aerial threat with great skill, allowing the Reds to maintain possession fast. Will be substituted for the weekend match, but having a capable deputy in place is fantastic because it will allow Ibrahima Konate to relax.
Virgil van Dijk (9/10)
The skipper was at show again and proving why he is one of the finest of his generation with the solid defensive outing. He did not hesitate to make his presence feel in the match despite conceding a goal before the break.
Joe Gomez (7/10)
A rare chance in the Starting XI, Joe Gomez was at fault for the opening goal of the match. He started on the left, finished on the right, made numerous contributions to much stronger build-up play following the break, and was given the typical yellow card for essentially doing nothing.
Wataru Endo (7/10)
After returning from the Asian Cup, Wataru Endo was the missing piece in the midfield after he completed his majority of tackles and duels. Endo also made one delicious lofted pass first half to give Luis Diaz one of his many, many chances to score.
Alexis Mac Allister (9/10)
The Argentine was a fantastic ball-winner and opportunity creator, frequently entering the box and creating opportunities for the first two goals, which came from a corner and a swift lofted cross into a dangerous position.
Ryan Gravenberch (7/10)
Most likely one of the few who participated a little bit more in the first half than in the second 45 minutes. Tried to put the Reds away fast after they fell behind, got into some advantageous situations, and had a few opportunities of his own.
Luis Diaz (9/10)
It was as simple as that— Luis Diaz should have gotten a brace within five minutes. Mishandled the ball during a standard one-on-one, curving off-target with the goal gaping. However, he was the only genuine threat in the first half, managing to put six shots on goal, so it’s hard to hold him back for his constant running and impact.
Harvey Elliott (8/10)
It appeared for a while that Elliott would start the game but not have the same influence as he has when he comes off the bench, but to his credit, he persevered and eventually found success.
Cody Gakpo (7.5/10)
A bit too sluggish and reactive in the first half, but Cody Gakpo had many more chances and scored the game-winning header from close range to make it 2-1. Fired one over when rushing through, and again looked just a little bit off-tempo.

Luton Town Player Rating
Thomas Kaminski (6/10)
Thomas Kaminski made some good saves to keep Luton in it, but he was hugely at fault for Liverpool’s first.
Teden Mengi (6/10)
Teden Mengi showed some decent signs and certainly is full of energy with his first touch. However, he had a busy afternoon defensively.
Gabriel Osho (6/10)
Gabriel Osho was a regular threat from set-piece situations, but defensively could not help the side as Luton were all over the place in the second half.
Amari’i Bell (3/10)
Amari’i Bell was again at fault in the second half after the Hatters lost of the match in the second half. He was also at fault during the Manchester United game after he led Rasmus Hojlund to score in the opening few moments.
Chiedozie Ogbene (7/10)
Scorer of Luton’s goal in the 12th minute he could have secured the biggest win in Luton’s history had they held on to the lead. His pace caused problems on the right flank in the first half of the match.
Albert Sambi Lokonga (6/10)
Albert Sambi Lokonga Made a stunning goal-saving block in the second half but could not influence the game with his presence as Diaz and Co were on fire.
Ross Barkley (7/10)
A class act on the ball and extremely effective off it too, winning eight duals, Ross Barkley was the lone warrior in the side as he led the charge despite the game being out of sight in the second period.
Alfie Doughty (6/10)
Alfie Doughty caused Liverpool FC problems with his deliveries into the box and was good during the first half which caused problems for Joe Gomez defensively.
Tahith Chong (6/10)
The former Manchester United player had a positive outing having assisted in the previous contest. However, like other players, he also had to suffer against a resolute Liverpool FC attack in the second half.
Carlton Morris (7/10)
After scoring against Manchester United, a lot was expected of Carlton Morris, however, he could repeat the show against Liverpool. He had one or two moments in the first half but then had a lackluster second period.
Cauley Woodrow (5/10)
Cauley Woodrow labored diligently on the left side and could influence the match after Jurgen Klopp’s side pressed the SOS button. Woodrow was hardly any match to Virgil van Dijk in the opposition box defense.
