Liverpool vs Chelsea Player Ratings- Caicedo and Fernandez Disappoint as Van Dijk Shines in Reds’ Victory
Liverpool have beaten Chelsea to lift their 10th League Cup. Virgil van Dijk scored the lone goal at Wembley on Sunday to secure the win in the dying minutes of extra time.
Jurgen Klopp had to reply on academy players as Mohamed Salah, Darwin Nunez, and Dominic Szobozlai joined the other eight players who were out injured. Both teams had a goal disallowed in normal time with Sterling and Van Dijk seeing their celebrations cut short in either half.
Without further ado, here are the player ratings from the Carabao Cup final:
Liverpool Player Ratings:
Caoimhin Kelleher – 9 | Massive performance from the goalkeeper in the final. Saved from point-blank to deny Cole Palmer in the first half and never put a foot wrong.
Conor Bradley – 7 | Had to switch from right-back to right-winger in the first half due to an injury to Ryan Gravenberch but did not manage to do as well as he did in the clash at Anfield.
Ibrahima Konaté – 7.5 | Another solid outing for the Frenchman as he dealt with Nicolas Jackson with ease on most occasions.
Virgil van Dijk – 9 | Proper captain’s performance from the Liverpool star to get the win for his side. Did not put a foot wrong in the game.
Andrew Robertson – 7 | Was good in linking up with Diaz, but needed help from Van Dijk to deal with Palmer. Tsimikas, who replaced him at 87′ had a better impact on the game.
Alexis Mac Allister – 8 | Solid outing for the Argentine as he adds another trophy to his cabinet.
Wataru Endo – 7.5 | Did a good job in sitting deep and ensuring that Chelsea do not break quickly. Combined well with Konate and Van Dijk to start the attacks.
Ryan Gravenberch – 6 | Hardly impacted the game before he unfortunately got injured midway through the first half.
Harvey Elliott – 8 | Had to switch roles from a right-winger to a midfielder in the game after the injury to Gravenberch. Almost scored the winner minutes before Van Dijk put the ball into the back of the net.
Cody Gakpo – 6.5 | Hit the post in the first half but was not making life difficult for Disasi and Colwill.
Luis Díaz – 8 | A proper live wire in the game and he kept going for the full 120 minutes. Battled hard with Gusto and was the biggest threat for Chelsea today.
Joe Gomez – 7 | Gomez was drafted in at right-back and was decent in defence, but was finding it hard to mark Sterling.

Bobby Clark – 7 | Played just over 40 minutes, including extra time, and did his job well.
Konstantinos Tsimikas – 8 | The Greek replacing Robertson unlocked Dias even more space as Gusto had trouble dealing with both. His perfect delivery saw Van Dijk head home the winner.
James McConnell – 7 | Took a booking for the team by stopping a counter and that was his biggest contribution for the 30-odd minutes on the pitch.
Jayden Danns – 8 | The youngster was a threat inside the box and was towering over Disasi and Colwill with ease – almost scoring too!
Jarell Quansah – 7 | Came on for Konate for the final 15 minutes and finished the job started by the Frenchman.
Chelsea Player Ratings:
Đorđe Petrović – 8 | Chelsea’s best player on the pitch as he made the saves comfortably, including a stunning clearance on the line to stop Elliott minutes before the winner, which was placed too well by Van Dijk.
Malo Gusto – 7.5 | Pick of the Chelsea defenders once again despite having a tough time against Diaz and Tsimikas.
Axel Disasi – 6.5 | Was nervy at the start and found it hard to manage Danns towards the end of the game.
Levi Colwill – 6.5 | The Englishman had a poor start to the game but gradually settled in, but not enough to get his side over the line.
Ben Chilwell – 6 | Decent game overall but was helped out a lot by his teammates, especially Mudryk, before he was taken off in the final minutes.
Moisés Caicedo – 7.5 | Lucky to have played the full game but was solid in the midfield.
Enzo Fernández – 7 | The Argentine had an iffy game overall and missed a golden chance in normal time when he had the option to pass to two teammates who were open inside the box.
Cole Palmer – 7.5 | Pick of the Chelsea attackers once again and he showed why they have spent the money on him.
Conor Gallagher – 7 | Could have easily won the game in normal time but missed two chances in the final minutes of the 90.
Raheem Sterling – 5 | Had a goal disallowed in the first half but apart from that he had no effect on the game before he was taken off in the 67th minute.
Nicolas Jackson – 6.5 | Was able to get past Konate on multiple occasions, but the Frenchman had his number overall.
Christopher Nkunku – 7 | Was able to link up well but could not get the end product in the game.
Mykhaylo Mudryk – 6.5 | Had the pace to burn but could not get things going down the left flank. Had more defensive contributions when he was brought on for the attack.
Noni Madueke – 6.5 | Was trying his best to but inside and get shots away, but could not do a lot in attack.
Trevoh Chalobah – 6 | Came on for the final 10 minutes and could not do much.
