Liverpool in talks with Feyenoord manager Arne Slot as Jurgen Klopp’s potential successor
The Reds are looking to bring Feyenoord manager Arne Slot to Anfield
Liverpool have reportedly opened up talks with Feyenoord manager Arne Slot as the club looks to replace the outgoing Jurgen Klopp, who is set to leave at the end of the season. The Reds were linked with their former player Xabi Alonso, but the Spaniard has opted to remain with Bayer Leverkusen, having guided the side to their first ever Bundesliga title.
According to talkSPORT, the Eredivisie outfit want £8.6 million for Slot, whose contract with Feyenoord runs until June 2026 but does not have a release clause. Liverpool have nonetheless entered into negotiations with the Eredivisie giants and the Dutchman has apparently made it clear that he wants to join the Premier League side.
Dutch journalist Marcel van der Kraan confirmed with talkSPORT about talks between the two parties while also admitting that it’s progressing.
“I’ve got full confirmation that talks are going on. There are also very strong signals that things are moving. Richard Hughes is in contract with the CEO of Feyenoord.”
Slot has won two titles with Feyenoord since taking charge in 2021, the Eredivisie trophy last year and the KNVB Cup in the current season.
Klopp aiming to step down with another Premier League title
Jurgen Klopp is aiming to depart Liverpool with another Premier League title. The Reds are currently in second position, three points behind leaders Arsenal, but can close the gap with a win over Everton tonight. However, they’d still remain second courtesy of an inferior goal-difference as the Anfield outfit cannot afford to slip up any further with only four games remaining.
