Liverpool given boost by Jonathan Tah decision
Jonathan Tah was a massively desired commodity in this transfer window. Liverpool, Bayern Munich and Barcelona all wanted him and enquired about him. However, a move ultimately did not materialize for the German defender to leave Bayer Leverkusen.
This week, after the window has been shut, Tah has publicly expressed his desire to move away from the Bundesliga holders. “A football career is short, and that’s why it’s always been my idea to get everything out of it that’s possible, to take all the experience with me. And in the summer I just had the feeling that it was time to look at something new – right after our extremely successful last season,” Tah said.
“My decision is just as clear as it was before. I will not be extending my contract. I still have a contract until 2025, and until then I will give everything for Leverkusen,” the 28 year old stated.
Losing their club captain and star centre back would be a huge blow for Leverkusen, especially on the back of the season they had last year, losing just the Europa League final after having won the Bundesliga and DFB Pokal unbeaten. It will be interesting to see whether this situation resurfaces in January because right now Leverkusen seem destined to lose him on a free, which is something they wouldn’t want.
Big clubs all around Europe are on the lookout once again because of this announcement by Tah. Bayern and Barcelona will no doubt be interested again but according to German media, it is Liverpool who are the front runners.
